my truck smokes black when i work it hard espeacaly shifting. how legal is this?i just love it to death, but how about the law?also how legal is a smoke stack in the box?by the way i have my #5 plate in the stock position. and i have not messed with pump other than the plate. thanks

I got pulled over a month or two ago here in Texas. I guess the state trooper saw me pull a little T/C lockup stunt when I layed down a smoke trail on crazy larry for about 200 ft. He came up to my passenger window, asked me to shut off the truck and get out and walk around to the back when it was safe. I told him to hold on cause I need to let her cool down before I killed it :-laf , and he replied, and I quote, "I will give you to the count of 5... 1... . 2... . 3... . 4" He looked like he was about to explode:mad:, so I shut her down at about 375*... not the end of the world I figured. So I got out, walked around to the back of my truck and popped a squat on the bumper. He immediately told me to stand up straight. He wanted to be in complete control. He proceeded to question, and I quote, "Who the hell do you think you are?" I just laughed. :-laf He told me that he was going to write me a ticket for disturbing the peace, and that it would be letting me off easy. HAHA. I just couldn't keep the smile off my face. :) LET THE COAL ROLL!!!! :-laf :-laf :-laf

I would have told him to find something a little better than that to try and give me a ticket for... ... . that would be thrown out if you actually show up to fight it. Some cops just cant stand having a little pecker!!!!!

Oh I fought it. I didn't pay that bogus ticket. I showed up at court, and what do you know... the state trooper was a no show. I made sure to tell the judge that the trooper didn't have his hat on, therefore making him out of uniform. My buddy, who has lived in Texas his whole life, told me that state troopers must be in uniform when they give you a ticket, and supposedly you can get your ticket dismissed if he is not. I would think you would need a picture or something. "Hey there copper, just wanted to thank you again for the ticket, oh, and by the way, can I get a picture with you?" :-laf :-laf I am not sure if I believe that or not, but what the heck. I figured I might as well make him look as bad as possible. :)

ive only been pulled over for it once in ogden utah i didnt realize that he was behind me and a stroker pulled up next to me so i just lugged it to give him a little smoke... didnt let the turbo catch luckily. . when the smoke cleared i seen the red and blues

ya seems here in texas, the only thing youll get are epa letters. i smoked out a sherriff one day and didnt know it till some high school kids told me! they were laughin when he just cruised through the smoke waving it out of his face! lol

That story just made my day :-laf :-laf

The last time I was stopped by a cop (CHP) was when I was coming home late from Sacramento (300 miles away) and got behind some car doing about 45 in the hammer lane. I was tired and irritable. When he finally pulled over I nailed it. The black smoke rolled. I was doing 80 when the blue light came on behind me. All I could see back there were two head lights and the light bar flashing. I pulled over. Got a ticket for following too close. The cop didn't even mention the smoke cloud, but he did say doing 80 was not good.

Two my buddies and I were running to get some food one night at about 10:30 after hauling three trailer loads of farm equipment and a county mounty pulled me over. i was driving my first gen with the fuel screw cranked, my other friend was driving his first gen with fuel turned up and turbo, and my third buddy was driving his jacked up BOMBed out third gen. We were goofing around cruising about 50-60 mph trying to smoke each other out. The cop was driving in the opposite direction slammed on his brakes and pulled a dukes of hazzard powerslide U turn combination behind us. We didn't think much of it because he was about a mile behind us until he caught me about 2 miles from where we passed. He tried to accuse me of drag racing. His exact words were " All I saw was smoke you must have been haulin' ***" I told him know I was just driving 50 in fifth gear. He said " Don't bull**** me son" " I know that you had to be flying, cause these big ole diesel truck only smoke when they are wide open. " I just pointed to smoke puffing out of the exhaust in his head lights and said Mine smoking right now. It smokes when I start it. I think I might have a bad injector. He called me a smart *** and let me go.

up here in mass you can get away wit it as long as you dont blow smoke on the cops. :) :) :)

It can be worse than that- mAss is a "green" state and they can get you for emissions/smog stuff if it's bad enough on a state hi-way.

I haven't had any trouble yet. . knock on wood, i can smoke most of the highway out when i want... The other day i was in the "passing lane" doing 75 and a hybrid came up behind me (two other lanes open) and flashed his lites, i accelerated, smoke eating hybrid... lol  yea, well, whatever...

just drive sensibly... and don't get provoked to prove a point, let it all pass ;-) losing a pushing match is one thing, losing your rig is another... ;)

Drive sensibly? Well now what fun is that? I guess I'm still young and I haven't shifted out of the invincible gear yet. Live life by the seat of your pants! My father always tells me to be careful when I'm in my truck. He doesn't know much about cars, but he knows enough to know that I spend all my money on my truck and every time he see's the truck it looks the same. He always says, "Didn't you say you just put another $6,000 into this thing?"

"Yup!"

"Well then why the hell does the truck still look the same? Where is that $6,000 going?" So suffice to say, he knows the truck isn't just an average pickup. None the less, my answer to him is always, "Dad, it's only a truck. It's not like I'm driving a sports car... how fast can I really go? :-laf :-laf Don't worry Dad, I'll be safe. " ;)
