Have a good friend who is also a TDR member but dosent have a cumputer. He has asked me to post this for him. He has a 04. 5 trk that he bought new. When ever he gets on the throttle to enter a freeway or pass some one he gets a big puff of black smoke. Is this normal or should he take it to his dealer? Also his milage is around 15 to 16 MPG. Most of his driving is highway and not city. He does have a cab high canopy and rarley tows anything. He used to have a 96 12 valve and got much better MPG than he is getting now.

Thanks in advance.

Dave Gardner. :)

I don't get a puff of smoke with mine until I set the attitude on sub-level 4 or 5. Not sure why his would smoke. Mileage is a little low, but if it's still new... you know the rest.

Mine is a James Bond smoke screen on the freeway if I step on it at 65 and want to pass anyone. I never knew it until my wife came up behind me and blew the doors off my Corvette as she passed in the CTD. Oh well. The dealer says its normal, just like the mileage. I get about the same as your buddy.

But then again, those LM1 1978 Corvettes did the quarter in about 18 seconds, if and only if the quarter was on a 10% downward slope grade. (I had one, with the L82 motor, the 25th anniversary model. . Not only was it the ugliest thing I have ever owned, it was the slowest Vette I've owned as well, thank god I sold that pile a few years ago) So I can truly understand why a 17 second CTD could blow off the Vettes doors.

My '05 will black smoke better than my '99 ever would, even with a EZ on the '99. The '05 had done it since I left the dealers lot (litterally). Oo.

I love this truck. :D

It is normal. Now, go enjoy making smoke! Oo. Oo.
