Doughboy21kd,
in your first post about the subject you Thought it was so cool want to make my 05 do that and in your next post,
you said But I am not wanting to just go out there and blow smoke for laughs.
It seems you are back peddling a little?

I'll try to answer your question, about cummins did fuel wise from 1st gen to 2nd gen to 3rd gen.
1st gen trucks had full mechanical pumps P7100 and simular. Best pumps today in my opinion no issues. 2nd. gen went to VP-44's electronic ( you know about failures and inadequate lift pumps) 3rd. gens went to CP-3 high pressure common rail. 3rd. gen fuel pressures can go as high as 27,000 psi. The idea is for better atomization of fuel for more complete burning... These are not Cummins ideas, these changes are the result of EPA regulations, note the 05's and up come with cats... . each change causes more electronics, and
costs, and reliability issues. Everyone wants more HP, performance including myself but we now have to be aware of CO2 emissions and smoke. The after-market diesel performance leaders are very aware of the EPA issues, and if they want to stay in business they need to insure their performance products don't exceed a now narrowing pollution acceptance standards. We have to change our thinking of "once was cool itsn't necessary cool today". If we continue to blow alot of smoke, which is very visible we are going to be targeted even more. Fortunately, there are a lot of smarter people then me that will hopefully keep the performance market "smoke free". Think of it as a new cigar, all the flavor, all the smell and no smoke :-laf :-laf
