I know this is probably a stupid question. But, Im the only one that drives my truck, and Ive never been in a position to notice this before.

I was getting my winter tires swapped on to my truck this morning (it was about 60 degrees out if that is relevant). I noticed that when the guy started up my truck, there was a puff of black smoke when it first started. Just the one puff, and then clear after that.

It may be (and probably is)that my truck has always had that puff of smoke since new. But I've never been in the position to see the pipe.

Is this common ? Or is it a sign of some wear ?

I have about 91k on the truck. Except for and Edge EZ, it is otherwise stock. It does have some Stanodyne in the fuel, but I haven't added any in maybe the last half tank.

Thanks,

My 93' does that and it's completely stock. Although, sometimes it's gray and sometimes it's black but a puff nonetheless. The 99' (sold) did the same thing. Both run great and no other signs of abnormal engine performance.

Thanks,

I thought it was probably normal. It probably gives it an extra shot of fuel when it starts. Ive just never been in the position to see it before
