This may sound like a stupid question, but how are ya'll getting the black smoke out of the exhaust in some of the pictures i see... Mine doesn't smoke at all and i kinda like it...

thanks for the info

Easy....

Just add bigger injectors and/or a box like the EZ or Comp. Generally speaking, the bigger injectors you get, the more smoke you will put out especially at low boost. The question is: How much smoke do you want? :D

the more the better

Well I would love to have enough smoke to blind everyone around me... . but I can't afford all that now :(

The black smoke produced depends on your airflow at low boost. My truck makes decent power, but doesn't smoke "as much" as some do, this was an observation from "outsiders" at the strip and on the dyno. Least I know I am using my "fuel" ;)

Just adding a COMP box will not give you the smoke you are after. Add injectors and a timing box (or the COMP works) to get a smoke producer.

timing box 600$

fueling box 800$

injectors 700$

completely blacking out the right lane right in front of a duramax priceless

The PE COMP is a timing box AND Fueling box for about $700, at rallies and events the prices can drop purty low :D. I paid $575 for mine.

Heck just talking around to TDR members can get you good deals too :D I bought some brand new DD1 injectors for $350, and they came with a free fuel filter. :D :D

All ya need after those two upgrades is a clutch.

I recomend a South Bend Clutch MU 0090 Con OFE (not for the light of wallet) (~$800 + installation)

If I would do the smoke show over again,, I would go straight past DD1's and go to some Supermentals,, or for a little more smoke I've heard the BD5's are better at Mosquito control.

A BIG turbo will increase the smoke, because it will increase the time before your turbo spools up,,, if your turbo isn't spooled up,, that's when the image of "smoking like a freight train" comes to mind.

A BIG turbo will also decrease smoke and EGT when at WOT by giving your motor cooler air, and less backpressure on your motor.

I have noticed with my truck,, PE COM 5/5 and DD1's if I take off a little quick My pyro instantly shoots up to 1000* and then when the turbo starts spooling up a little bit the EGT starts falling, but at the begining of each gear(after a shift), before the turbo starts to spool up, my pyrometer swings up purty darn high.

If I am in 5th gear @~1300RPM and go WOT the pyro will climb to 1200* before my stock HX-35 starts to spool up. My truck also accelerates slowly when it's puffing black smoke, when the turbo spools up, and the black smoke starts to clear,, there is a nice "push" in your back until about 95MPH when the engines starts hitting redline and the ECM cutsback fuel.

I hit 1400-1500* under WOT in 5th gear, I keep temps that are over 1300* limited to less than a minute, and anything in excess of 1400* less than 15-20 seconds.

That was my rant about smoke.

PS I got off subject,, I guess I would have been better of in the TDR chat room.

smoke

the comp box by edge is the answer. you only need that one item to make smoke and the gauges of course. You can even adjust the smoke at each level! My wife likes no smoke and I like enough to go fast, pretty cool unit! you NEED one.

I can leave a nice plume of smoke off boost wit hte DD3's and the comp on level 5/5. It takes care of tailgaters big time. Befroe i had the injectors, with just the comp,it would barely smoke at all. My dads 01 with the tiny turbo smoked so bad with dd3'sand an EZthat we had to take them out,it would cover the road, traffic had to stop. I used to hate the smoke, now i kinda like it,I can control it with my right foot,so no big deal. Smoke = power,so ill keep the smoke thank you.

Smoke

I just made my first "loaded" run since I added the 275 injectors and boost module & elbow. WOW! what a difference! My buddy was following me..... ah, trying to follow me in his new vortec Chevy. We got behind this guy in a ford doing about 20 mph under the speed limit. When I got to a place to pass I hammered it in 4th and grabbed 5th as I passed him. When we got to our next stop i asked my buddy why he didn't pass him too? " couldn't. not enough room" Funny, my 11,000 lb rig didn't have a problem finding "enough room" He said that when I first jumped on it it rolled out some black smoke and then cleared out as I got beside the ford... . Shame, I wanted to oil up his windshield!

I just chuckled, didn't bother explaining the whole turbo spool up thing, those chevy guy's would never understand it anyway.

I have the same as Snow Man, but with the 275 injectors. I blow about twice as much as before. Other than the clutch slipping I love it! :D :D

That Boss v-plow is quite the unit. A freind has one mounted on a 92 Ram. They are great in parking lots. He also does a development that is on the side af a mountain and the raod has 4 or 5 switchbacks. You have to plow it every 3 -4 inches or you just won't get up there. Well, I wont, He puts his plow in full V and just lets that cummins power its way to the top.

This is my first year with the v-box spreader. Now if we could just get some snow... . I think i'll move to Buffalo, NY!

I spent a lot of money this year on snow stuff, too,no snow yet. I might go to buffalo this week,a friend is sending a few loaders onlow boys, and needs operators. Im amazed at how well the Dodge carries the 980lb V plow. it works great,i tried it on the 2" storm we got on 12/10
