My 2000 started puffing balck smoke. I replaced the lift pump, fuel filter, IAT sensor, air filter. It idles and runs fine, but under the pedal to the floor it puffs black smoke. 70,000 miles it never did this before. Would the MAF due this?

The MAP sensor? I suppose it might be, but I doubt it. As these engines accumulate miles, they will smoke a little, but it should be very much.

Couple of things to check:

1. Check all intercooler boost hoses. Anything between the turbo compressor outlet and the intake horn on the drivers side has the potential to leak. Be sure to inspect and tighten all the clamps. They have a reputation for blowing off.

2. Check wastegate. Make sure it is in the forward position while the engine is off. Might be hanging.

3. If you're running the stock air box, try removing the rubber / plactic tube that goes between the air box and firewall. Over time, they can begin to collapse.

Do you have guages? If you could give us your boost/egt's ,it would be easier to diagnose. A boost leak will cause smoke, even a plugged air filter will cause smoke. If the air filter is clean, and the boost is at least 18PSI WOT,then i would think you might have an injector problem,or your fuel has had motor oil added to it(drain oil)by the seller.

Yes, the wastegate should move. it will take quite a bit of force though. I can move mine by hand, but a small pair of channel locks makes it much easier. Spray a small amount of penetrating oil around the wastegate shaft and let it set. I say a little because the next time you crank up, the oil will burn off and makes a stink.

If the rod won't move, you've probably found your problem.
