Just got the results back from Blackstone. Everything looks good. Iron at 30. Silicon at 7. Everything was at or below universal averages. My question is about the silver content. It was at 3. Last two tests showed 3 and 5. Universal avg is ZERO. Where the heck is this silver coming from?

Aluminum was 2

Tin - 1

Lead - 1

Copper - 5 average is 4

Chromium - 1

moly - 41 average 19 - I think this is good... ?

Potasium -4 average is 2

antifreeze and water are at 0

fuel less than . 5 and insoluables at . 5

Blackstones original comments on my first analysis questioned the silver content. They don't even know where it's coming from... ? I used Mobil Delvac 15w40 for this sampling. Last one was half and half Mobil Trk/Suv Syn 5w and Delvac 15w... .

Any ideas or others with this mystery metal in their oil. . ?

All in all, my Cummins is doing very well and I'm pleased...

Next time don't use a big silver soup ladel to scoop your oil out form the drain pan to the sample bottle. Naw, just kidding. Don't know for sure.

:-laf ...

and I know what you mean about the aeroturbine... . must be getting old cause it was too loud for me after about 5000miles...

silver use to be used in diesel engines in wrist pin bearings. older engine still have them. some newer bearings [main, rods, pins... ] may still have trace amounts of silver in the bearings. . if you use an oil that has a high zinc/zddp content, it can leach silver from the bearings if they contain any. .

i had the oil lab at work burn a sample of my engine oil after it had been in my engine for about 11,000 km and 9 months... i had silver too??? and if anyone is interested in how my sample read...

Anyone have a definitive answer as to where it's coming from? Something on the newer Cummins models must have some part that's giving up silver as a wear metal. ????
