Unless there is something going wrong with my engine, the only other thing I could attribute the high wear metals to is my 4kgsk.

how much of that 8600 miles was at above 3000rpm? i hate to say it, but unless the later oil sampling shows different [hope for a contaminated sample bottle], i think you have a failure in the engine. maybe a spun rod bearing.

Less than 30 seconds above 3000... ..... less than 15 seconds above 3500.



The engine makes no strange noises and I would think it would with a spun rod bearing... ..... some sort of knocking or something to foreshadow an engine failure, but nothing. I also wonder if there is anything in the p7100 or the turbo that could let go of lead and aluminum into the oil?

Well the results are in, see what you think of these numbers with 9815 miles on the oil (sorry it's sideways, otherwise I'd have to squish it down!)





ps: text at bottom says it's 5w40 but the oil I had was actually Amsoil 15w40

I have thought about the oil in my truck and will be testing the engine oil every other change. it's only 17. 50 to get it tested thinking that its worth that,if not more

cj I think I'm going to learn to turn it into bio, then run up to 25-30% as long as it's not too cold. Winters here can be mild, but once every 2-3 winters we get cold snaps where it gets below 0.



The oil I get has quite a bit of fat, so it's not going to work well now. In the buckets it starts to cloud at 65F, and it's pretty well sludge by 50.



Since I have ran the last 2 tanks 100% diesel my '98 seems happier. Definitely less smoke in the AM, very little in fact even with these so-so Bosch 300 injectors.

Well here is a bit of a disconcerting subject on NW Bombers. I am thinking whatever fuel this guy ran it wasn't very good. Hopefully that's the case rather than it being a result of running bio fuels http://www.nwbombers.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=27442

I dunno Vaughn - a few threads like this one - some research reports along the same line based upon commercially produced biofuels and such simply are NOT reassuring as to delivering reliable quality without engine threatening downsides!



Perhaps in lighter percentages - enough to provide need fuel lubricity - but NOT so much as to radically affect wear characteristics in engine internals?



At any rate, I suspect that guys intending to keep their trucks over many years, and producing their own backyard fuel may well find themselves coming up short as to actual "savings" over the long haul.



Few of us can compete for expertise and technology - as well as constant analysis and QC provided by the big guys in the business - and one relatively major premature engine failure can sure outweigh the fuel savings in a hurry!
