2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission bleeding brakes, cant purge air

I decide to change my brake fluid today as my old fluid was getting pretty rotten. Drained th reservoir, put the new fluid in and started bleeding, starting at the back and working up front. Just working by myself, so I had to constantly push the brake pedal in and check for air. Still purging air out of the back lines, went through about 50 oz. of brake fluid trying to get the air out. Does this sound right? brakes still dont work. getting annoying, wish i had taken it to the garage and had them take care of it, now i feel like rolling the truck off a freekin cliff... ...

You need a second pair of hands. The bleeder screw needs to be tightened before you take your foot off of the pedal once you bottom out at the floor. Or, get one of those cheap plastic brake bleeding bottles or the Speed bleeders.

If you aren't using either, you are letting air back in when you take your foot off of the pedal.

Stick a piece of vac line on the bleeder and the other end in a bottle filled with new fluid.

Try gravity bleeding. Get some clear hose to use on the bleeder screw then just open the bleeder and watch the fluid for air when its gone your done, just make sure the master cyl. stays full. No need for a helper, no need to pump the brakes. I did this on my 96 when I flushed the fluid and it did a great job.

dang, i feel like a heel. i was bleeding the brake lines, not cracking the bleeds though. Had a buddy come up and showed me what I had to do, shouldve had him there to begin with. So i had all the air out of the lines, but not out of the caliper and the cylinder. Went to crack the bleeds, and they rung off the calipers, and the two in the back had been rung off for some time before I got the truck, so I got to get new cylinders and calipers, shocked to find out that two new calipers and wheel cylinders from Napa are less than $100! So atleast I will have a whole new brake system and peace of mind

oh, haha, yeah, I went to unscrew the bleeds, and they just kind of disintegrated, leaving the threads in, and the back two were already long gone, but now I got new calipers and wheel cylinders and nice new brake fluid, truck brakes good and no more pulling to the right.
