Well the lines all looked fine and dandy on my 99 when I checked them before the winter. Haven't gotten under there yet this spring to do the spring PM.

Friday morning I went and picked up my new furnace. Backed up to my porch , tailgate opened is just inches higher than the top landing of my porch.

Slid the burner out onto the top landing.

Pulled the truck out, backed into the driveway to park the truck. Had my old trailer there waiting to be hooked up to fill her with mulch for the gardens after getting the burner in the basement.

While backing up in the driveway, the brake peddle went right to the floor.

Left front brake hose let loose, slit about 1" long, just above the fitting end at the caliper. Just belched brake fluid all over the ground.

Real close call for me. Thankfully I was slowly backing into the driveway.

Better check them hoses..... for all of you that haven't replaced them yet.

I have a set of the SS braided / Kevlar hoses on the way from EGR.

Had the same thing from the same hose happen to me on my 92 Jeep Cherokee this past winter while I was plowing with it. Was in a customer's driveway around 2 am when it went. Finished her driveway very carefully using the hand brake and 4 low to slow and stop. Thought I was going to be done for the night, but in the three mile drive back to my house realized that with absolutley no traffic on the roads due to the time, it was pretty easy to drive with only the hand brake. Got me home no problem so I continued on my route. Managed to get everyone done then parked it. Not suggesting that anyone try this at home, but desparate times, desparate measures. My customers were appreciative of the effort. Moral of the story-this absolutely does happen at the worst times.

Somehow one front brake hose on my '96 rubbed on the tire and wore a notch into it. Amazingly it didn't blow. I ordered a new SS set from EGR and replace them, peace of mind now.
