Here are some pics of the carnage.

This case has been put through its paces, but finally quit me while driving down the highway at about 75mph.

I am wanting to replace it with something with a much deeper low gear-set and preferably an all gear configuration. The pipe dream includes an Atlas or STak; does anyone know what applications fit and function very well behind the cummins and 6-speed. I am really considering any case that will fit.

Lots of time in 4-wheel drive and very often loaded.

Sorry to hear about your problem there. Was wondering though, where did you find all of that mud? It never rains in Arizona :-laf

I can remember when I worked on the Rez and in the Four Corners areas in my company 4x4 (a Dodge Ramcharger) getting it down to the top of the wheel openings after the snow started melting. ;)

Good man!:-laf:-laf If you are going to break some parts, go big and break them just like that!

The NV271 (3rd Gen's) is supposed to be quite a bit stronger. However, I think it's geared the same as the 241.

WOW!!!

There are a couple other threads about T-Cases. It must be a "full moon" as lots of people are having troubles. I would check into a rebuilt NP 205 (I believe someone stated that the old Fords used a left side case) or like you suggested an Atlas II. The 205 is only geared to 2:1 vs the 2. 7:1 the modern units use. The Atlas can be ordered to 4:1. I am almost positive Atlas will fit (they are used in many applications) and I'll bet the 205 will also fit (with or without an adapter). I don't think either will be a direct drop in unit. You will probably have to redo the drive lines, however the trade off in strength would be worth the trouble. The other option is to use a 271. I'm not sure if the inside is any stronger, however the case itself is better engineered. The 271 should be pretty closer to a direct drop in.

Just my opinion.
