Made you look...

Ok so I didn't granade her, nor do I own a G56. But i was considering an "Upgraded" to the G56 from my 48re, and begin my rowing days because of my reliability concerns.

Take a look at these #'s

I noticed G56 in the mercedes equipment is being used up to 498 ft/lb of TQ and 177 hp in the " 818" model

Jumping to the "823" model Mercedes (597TQ and 231hp) they change trannies to the G85

Considering the Cummins is putting out 610tq and 325hp why isn't Dodge using the G85?

Did I miss somthing?

YUP - you TOTALLY overlooked the beancounters, whose motto is "Never give the customer an even break!" :-laf :-laf

With that information ... the G56 will be a complete disaster with the new "610" and up Cummins engins. This will almost certainly keep me from purchasing a new Dodge CTD if this is the only manual transmission. I have a bad feeling this new transmission will rank up there if not surpass the great "6. 0" Ford disaster.

I like the torque curves on the MB 4cyl engine. These motors arent producing high torque over the 1600 mark either. It seems to me that more power over a greater range (not to mention a little bombing) is going to spell trouble for these trannies. It is also interesting that the G85 has a . 73 6th gear. This sounds familiar. Maybe someone decided erroneously on the G56. I would imagine that lets say DC did drop back to a 3:54 axel, I bet this would make life even harder for the G56. Hopefully, we are all mistaken and they have done their homework.
