My block heater quit. I took the cord off and get 110V to the female side that screws onto the heater. I measured the heater and is like 1MEG Ohm. I assume it is bad. Does it just screw out. Where is the best place to get a replacement?

If I recall correctly, there are a cross bar and a nut inside. I have removed one from a short block that was out of the truck, but couldn't figure out how anyone would be expected to do a removal and replacement in the truck. If I had to, I'd plan to make up another retention bar system that I could deal with easier. Maybe a long bolt with the head inside, threaded through a steel bar so the mess is one piece and easier to grab-- and a nut on the outside. The actual water seal is via o-ring.

Maybe someone else has the secret; I'll admit my level of motivation wasn't very high. . .

There is a allen head bolt in the middle of the heater, loosen but don't remove it then jiggle the heater back and forth while pulling outwards. Piece of cake. You will lose most of your coolant, be prepared.

In the Cummins manual it says to drain out about 5 gallons of anti freeze.

I'm thinking about replacing my block heater. Its really week. Its silent when plugged in.

Whats a block heater cost by the way?
