My blocker heater no longer works. I unscrewed the cord from the block heater itself and checked for continuity of the heating element and found that to be okay! I then checked for continuity of the cord, One terminal for the cord had continuity and the other had none. I want to make sure that I am right in thinking that the cord should have continuity for both prongs.

Thanks!

Brian

All three wires on the plug should have continuity... your cord is likely damaged, a common issue. Geno's or the dealership, or even Napa should have them in stock.

If the cord is bad, you might just cut off the end and check again. If it works then just wire a new end on.

That would work, but the original poster is in New Jersey.
In about a week, the plug would be corroded and he would be right back were he started.
The best solution is a new sealed cord.

Thanks guys for all the responses!!! I have been waiting for a reason to order from Geno's anyway!!!

Come to think of it the ground had no continuity either!! I'm glad to hear its a common problem.

FYI to all.

Dont run your engine with the block heater plugged in. . it causes a static around the element and it shorts out. . . . lesson learned on last truck.

Thanks Eric! I always wondered what if anything would happen if you did that.

The owners manual says not to run the engine with the heater plugged in. But I know I've done it several times either by accident or out of laziness.

So far, no damage.

It's also a good idea to run your block heater on a GFI circuit so if something is wrong you don't get the shock of your life when you touch the truck. If the GFI trips prematurely, it would indicate a fault with the block heater or cord.
