Hey Folks,

I plugged in my block heater (installed the harness myself) for the first time last night. It's pretty cold this morning (27 degrees). I popped the hood to feel the block and it didn't feel warm. My question is how warm will it get the engine block? Could I have attached the harness upside down or does the block not get that warm?

I've never grabbed the block so I can't say what to feel for, but you will be able to tell if it's working by how long it takes the grid heaters to cycle.

When I felt mine it was warm but not to hot for the touch. Your block heater was working if wait to start light only took 3 seconds to start and you had warm air right off the bat.

If I touch my water outlet or the side of the head, it is noticeably warm. My wait to start light doesn't seem to ever come on if the block heater has been plugged in for a couple hours.

Plug it in and listen by the grill. You should hear a sizzle sound from the coolant boiling around the heater element with a few seconds if it's working. You can also check resistance across the plugs with an ohm meter, that will tell you if you have an open circut.

Also, grab the upper radiator hose. If the heater was on, it will be warm to the touch (not hot, just warm).

mine gets just warm enough so you can hear that the engine isn't ice cold once it starts up. it doesn't knock when you start to drive it. so it is working, but it isn't going to heat it up real good. to get it good and warm, you need a fuel fired heater like an esper or webasto heater... [i'm going to get one soon. ]

OK I feel dumb!

I had 2 extention cords laying on the floor of the garage and I grabed the one that wasn't plugged in! LOL I messed with it for a good 30 min too!!! LOL

feeling dum

I laughed harder about this then I did the sit coms I watched tonight. :-laf

Boy, I think everyone of us has been there before. The moral of the story... ... Start with the obvious stuff first. At least it was a easy fix.

Thanks for the laugh
