Just more new owner questions guys!

How warm does the block heater keep the engine?

I've got continuity thru the heater itself and the cord is good.

Just tryin' to decide if it's working or not..... the only block heaters

I've seen before are on ships and they keep things VERY warm!

Thanks again!

Scott

Scott, if plugged in for a few hours the engine gets warm to the touch but not enough to register on the coolant temp gauge. Sometimes you can hear the coolant boiling around the element. Mine will melt the snow off the hood unless it gets below 20°. Most times any problem with the block heater can be traced to the cord, extension cord or even the outlet. The block heater element itself rarely fails unless it is plugged in while not submersed, not likely to happen unless you are way low on coolant.

Thanks!

Mine must be OK. It gets warm at the t-stat housing. I just wanted to check before I "assumed" it wasnt working!

Gracias!

working heater

If you checked the conn. then plug in to cord,"IF" the outside temp(& eng----- is cold enough,(most mfg ) is around 35-40 deg. open the hood and listen passanger of the end close'ly and you will hear a low tone like bacon sizziling . another test if you have snow on the ground get a hand full and toss on the block are just above the heater are and it will slowly melt, nother test plug in the cord into a drop light, with the bulb turned on and as you do it will slightly dim as you do----- and you can now buy a ext cord with a glow lamp that will indicate the circuit is working. .
