I always have mine plugged in. When I get home, I cover the engine with a moving blanket, plug into my 24 hr. timer that comes on at 4:AM, I leave 6:30 to 9:AM, work dependant.
I've alway had good luck staying at hotels where they have outside GFIC plugs. When travelling to a location, do a "once around" the parking areas and look for the outlet on the building. I've never stayed at a hotel that wasn't up to code. Make sure you have a (hopefully) stall to park in where your cord will not be accross a public path. It's pretty much a no brainer.
I'm a 35 year veteran/dealer of AMSOIL. Heavy Duty diesel. 5/30 winter-15/40 summer and I use no other lube products, none, zilch. Read the history of it. If you are not plugging in, I suggest you definately use a synthetic oil. We all know, COLD starts are HARD on an engine.
Pac. NW Wash. 10 miles east of I-5 and the temp this morning was 25. THAT is too damn cold for me. . I can't imagine living in sub-freezing zones, let alone zub-zero ones.
My vehicles have always gotten 400K plus miles on them before any major work. The last was my 96 GMC Sub-w/6. 5 turbo and at 476K miles number two cylynder intake valve rim chipped away and that was it for compression. I attribute al those trouble free miles to good maintence, Amsoil, and warm engine starts.
Hopes all that helps.
