Does anyone know... how easy is a block heater install.

I'm looking at an '08 that doesn't have one (I would like one). Is the heater installed on all engines and Dodge just doesn't run the wires or is the heater and wiring not installed. I would think for a $10 option all the engines would have it installed and Dodge just chooses not install the wiring.

Thanks for the help!

All trucks have block heaters already installed but it all depends if your truck came with the Cold Weather package or not if it did then your block heater cord will already be there. . Mine did not so i just ordered one straight from my local cummins dealer for almost 1/2 the price of what my dodge dealer wanted... And its super easy to install just make sure your route the wires out of way any danger. .

Trucks is located at a dealer in SoCal so I doubt it has the Cold Weather package. I did find another truck at a different dealer that had a heater. Its good to know they all have the heater Dodge just doesn't wire everyone. I figured Cummins put one on every engine it was only a $10 option so it could not have been that complex. Now I just have to get them to unlock the fast idle for me!!

Thanks

I bought mine from a Cummins dealer and it cost more like $20 for the same cord. Dealer wanted $55. Geno's didn't list it at that time for the 2008. Mine didn't have a cover or cap like my stock '99 cord so I have been using a 3 prong to 2 prong adaptor (49 cents at hardware store) to protect the blades when not in use. A little dielectric grease once in awhile. I also tuck it behind the bumper to keep junk from splashing and freezing on it. Hopefully the picture attached to give an idea.

Thats s a nice trick to cover prongs and grease it, I installed my Cummins/Fleetguard block heater cable from e bay, like about 8 bucks, The 07 and 08 models are the same unscrew the protective factory cap from the block element. I ts by the oil filter mount, I had bought a roll of 3/8 wire flex loom to cover and protect the cord from damage and tie wrapped it along a tube and routed it up to the right front oil cooler support brace and stuck the prongs on it fits well and is secure there.
