Block Heater

New truck was ordered with the cold weather package. Why I need that in AZ is beyond me.

Should it have come with a 110 Volt cord to plug it in?

The cord plugs into the block heater on the PS side of the motor by the oil filter. The end terminates up behind the front license plate holder.

I think they quit coming with the cord several years ago. Unless things have changed, this one will work.

The cold weather package includes a cord and a winter front.

It should be routed to the front bumper on the passenger side.

When I got my 2017 I had trouble finding the cordbut after looking for a while and knowing where the block heater was I found the cord.

It’s great for earlier heat, but really not needed until -20°F and below, but recommended below 0°F. That’s per Cummins, and I’ve started cold without a block heater or grid heater and it’s a pretty normal start until you get below -10°F.

I've gotten to where I do the same thing, especially with my plant car. Plugged into a timer 1 -2 hours before leaving depending on ambient temps, start, clear windows and go. Instantly making heat, no wasted idle time, easier on batts and starter.
Electricity is cheaper than fuel.

I've got a smart plug that I can set a temperature into the setting for it to come on. That way it doesn't come on every day but only when temps dip below 32 Degrees! I know it's not necessary, but it's easier on the engine start up! Plus I have heat before I hit the main road!

I install a oil pan heater on my trucks. Engine wear is the devil. I don’t like to idle either.

Well, went to find the plug last night since Ice took a bit to get off yesterday, could not find the cord. My assumption now is that it is not there and the Snow Plow / Snow Chief options does not include it? Seems typical that a truck that costs this much does not include a 5$ cord. Anyway it is not listed on my window sticker and appears on RAM site you have to select it to get it!!!. I did not find it in the bumper so my question is do the 19+ trucks have the element in the engine? I assume the Geno's cord or another will fit? I do not want to order parts I dont need, my co-worker said his 14 had the element just need the cord.

They all have the block heater installed. Some just don't have the cord. I would look starting at the element behind the oil filter, sometimes the cords can be hidden pretty well. If it indeed is missing I like the bumper mounted cords that Geno's carries. They have a nice weather tight cover.

100% agree with JR! The bumper mount has been great on my truck. The cover has kept the connection nice and clean over the years since I installed it. Was a PITA getting the cord onto the element with my big paws! They don't have as nice of mount for newer trucks but you could get the plug mount without bracket and fab something to fit opening in bumper. I made a companion bracket to mount LED light bar in bumper. Worked our get without having to drill bumper! Another thing to do is get a WIFI outdoor plug that will allow you to set a time frame and maybe even a weather condition for it to come on. I have mine set to come on only below 35 degrees @ 4 am so that if I need to be a service call for DW! She goes in o dark 30!!!!!! Nice to have preheat on engine to hook up trailer for rescue!
