Block Heater

where would my block heater plug in be located if i have one. i bought the truck in florida and i don't hardly ever use the manifold air heater much less the block heater. but i got to cold places regularly and it would be nice to "plug in". thanks. scott.

I have an outside outlet that is switched from the comfort of my living room. A few hours before I leave or when I get up for work, I just flip the switch. I can plug in the wife's car at the same time. If it's -30/-40, I just leave it on all night or use a timer.

Thanks to this thread I located the plug for my block heater and started using it, again thanks to this thread did the math and saved myself a few $$ a month by putting it on a timer for a few hrs before I leave for work. Thanks to all!



One question though: Can anyone tell me if there is any problem starting the rig with the block heater still plugged in? Sounds stupid, but it'd be convenient for me to start the truck THEN unplug and put the cord back in the garage than the other way around. Just don't want to damage anything by starting the truck with the block heater still plugged in. Anyone know? Thanks in advance!!

zimman20 I asked the same question about a year ago. ( Heres the post)

I have been using my remote starter for a year with the truck plugged in and have not had a problem. Sometimes it runs with it plugged in for four or five minutes and i haven't seen any problem yet.

Yes, it is Okay to plug your block heater even when the tempature is in the normal range. I have a 2001 5. 9 HO diesel, and I do this on a regular basis. Example, when I come home from work and I leave pluged until the next day when its time to go to work. The engine only stays at about 100 to 120 degrees.
