2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission block heater

I am wondering how long the truck has to be plugged into the wall outlet for the block to be warm. The AM temps are in the high twenties. How much will that cost to run?

I have mine on a timer for 3 hours. It does heat up the water and the truck seems to start easier in my opinion. If the temperatures around here were closer to zero, I would leave it on a little longer. What the block heater costs to run depends mainly on you local electric rates. I think the block heater uses 650 watts.



So multiply . 65 times your electric rate (cost per kilowatt hour) to determine what it costs to run per hour. Example . 65 at 6 cents per kilowatt = 3. 9 cents per hour. Or . 65 at 15 cents per kilowatt = 9. 75 cents per hour. KL

I'm finding that the colder it is, th longer time is needed. Down to 20 degrees, 3 hours usually does it, buy recently it's been down to 0 and single digits. I've been pluging in for up to 5 hours at these temps. You can tell if you've plugged in long enough based on how long the grid heaters stay on. If the block is warm enough the wait to start light will go right off after the bulb check.
