Hello everybody, i have a 2005 CTD auto with 36,000 miles on it. I have recentently noticed that the back bottom of my oil pan is wet, theirs not very much oil their but you can tell something has leaked on it. It seems to be coming from my blow-by tube, I noticed a few dropplets on the end of the tube.

Is this normal to get a very small amount of oil out the tube?

How much air should you feel coming out the tube when the engine is at operating temp and at idle?

It is normal to get oil out of the tube - that's why there's a tube.

I've never reached my hand in there at idle to feel what it's like. After once getting a hand caught in an engine I'm a little fearful to get that close when they're running.

their is a revision through dodge it's called a catch bottle installed free for those who say your truck is leaking oil mine never left a mess on the driveway until recently i went in asked my service writer about it and he said there is a revision that we can do the catch bottle

I saw a new ferd (in 03) dump about a 1/4 cup of oil out it's draft tube when a dealer ran it on the dyno ~ BTW, it was down 70 ft lbs from my stock 03. :-laf

anyone seen smoke come out of the blow by tube or dip stick tube while running?

I haven't noticed it on the 06, but it has been doing it on my 92 since I bought it new..... Still doesn't use any oil after 14 years...

the catch bottle is black in color has three 1/2" holes towards the top in case you forget to empty it they recomend you empty every oil change i haven't done mine for 10,000 miles no problems the bottle is twisty tied i guess you could call it that to the blowby tube thats it works great no more dripping

I just wire tie a thick sock doubled over on mine. Catches the oil mist that gets on the engine and stock air filter. Change it every oil change.

yes i had to pull out my paper work but for the whole job strap cani #5018186-aa breather o #5018187-aa cover engi #5018188-aa if i knew how to do pics on here i could upload the work order hope this helps

hi . . , I'd like to see those pics. . I'm having the same prob at 71,000 klms (about 50k mile) like you my dealership just looks at me like I got 10 heads and shrug their shoulders.

Just like yesterday when I went there to get the oil changed. I went to them specificely to have that transfer case u joint greased, and you should've seen the problems that caused. . , never did get it done. Have to got to a new dealership out of town and hope for the best there on fri. Thses dealerships are sure stupid especially here.

Anyone else seen this on their 2005? I have some power loss and smoke that I have been fighting with for some time now. I am wondering if the turbo is toast? The dealers are useless unless there are some codes to work with.

Thanks,

Bill Sayre
