The BOV i am using is a turbonetics godzilla its a monster i was warned that it would be extremely loud i cant wait gonna work on it some more tommorow

A BOV does a few things:

  1. Makes a cool noise - if vented to atmosphere
  2. Helps to almost 100% eliminate that pesky surge/bark between shifts
  3. Help keep the turbo 'spooled' between shifts... since the surge is reduced - there is less airflow going the wrong way to interfere with the compressor wheel.
  4. Impress all of your neighbors and every ricer out there... I've never heard a CTD with a BOV - but it would have to be one heck of a release. Any big cubic inch AND high boost engine would have to make a BIG, AWESOME sounding BOV release.

They don't really make your engine more (noticably or measurably) efficient - but I can see why some people would think that. The fact that OEMs install them in cars says a lot...

thats freakin hilarious! a blow off noise maker! i have been watching this post and am really interested now, good luck and i hope it goes well, if so i will hire you to install one on mine! :-laf

thanks i really appreciate that lotero, i have all the parts ready and im aiking to do it but it has been raining everyday here for the past week and i have a plane to catch tommorow morning to go home, so it will have to wait till after the weekend.

Any update on this?

I am looking for a BOV that is multi-functional. First, I'd like it to do what it is supposed to do, make the turbo bark go away, and second, I'd like to set it so it blows off if the max boost pressure is exceeded, a safety valve.

Anyone know if such a beast exists?

Thanks,

Chris

ok, this is my new research project also, since i am pretty sure i hurt my factory turbo due to a "bark" problem. see pic here: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117400.

so just how does this valve install? is it "T" ed into the intake plumbing? anyone have a pic??

also, has anyone thought of putting a one-way gravity butterfly in the air side of the turbo outlet, just outside it, so that if air flow is reversed, the butterfly shuts off the flow. i realize response time for such a device is critical so it would have to be very light weight and also very strong. maybe some 70 series aluminum. this could be a purely mechanical device. there is some downside to this approach, but its just a thought.

im still waiting to finish mine i just got back from my thanksiving break and schools really kicking my butt so its hard to find time but ill get it done soon enough.

My BOV is mounted on the intake tube between the intercooler and intake manifold.
