Well, fairly cold in northern mi. I think I have a blower motor that has a lot of draw. The resistor settings burnt out one by one and now all I have is high speed. Plus the fan makes a screech noise for about 4 seconds when first started.

I did a forum search but kinda struck out. here is my question, How much work to drop the blower down from behind the glove box? Do you need a press to remove fan from shaft, or put fan on new shaft? What are the costs I am looking at to buy new motor and resistor? Any feedback or links to old forums would be a huge help!!

Thanks Dave

Cold, eh? My blower began screeching so lound it hurt your ears last winter driving home at -50F! I remember making earplugs so I wouldn't freeze to death and scraping the ice off the inside of the windshield.

Replacement was easy.

Cost of dodge replacement was rediculously expensive.

I put in aftermarket (NAPA I believe), but noticed recently, it was having trouble keeping cab warm enough at -35F... . possibly because the aftermarket blower doesn't put out like the OE motor, but also could be the heating system (heater core) is becoming plugged (inefficient).

Best of luck... ... stay warm!

OH, and I replaced the resistor at the same time - seemed like the two went out together - maybe related somehow. First, I purchased a new resistor for pennies on ebay which lasted a week or so. I replaced it with a new resistor from dodge dealer, and it's been working fine for a year now.

I had trouble with mine as well. I think my bearings were going it screeched pretty loud just a bit at first but as time went by it pretty much did it all the time. Causing a drag coupled with cold temps creating more drag for the motor blew the resistor.

Dodge was out of the park for replacement iirc it was 300 or something totally ridiculous like that. Autozone had it for 60. Still working fine a couple winters later. Also very easy to r&r.

I got one from a U-Pull_It yard. $10 included the resistor. Next time I go there I'll get another for a spare.

You might also check this place: Burdens surpluscenter. They have a long list of DC blowermotors and actual blower units - specs readily available online bet you could get a match.

My blower motor went out last week as well. Got a replacement from RockAuto. It's an AC Delco unit, and works flawlessly so far. Replacement would have been easy, except for the back screw which gave me a very hard time in the bitter cold weather... :{

The motor and resistor are pretty close together in the duct. I've cleaned my blower wheel a couple of times due to leaves and pine straw getting in it. It mounts vertically on passenger side with 3 screws, maybe 6 MM?. The one next to firewall is tough but can be taken out with a flexible 1/4" extension and ratchet. The power plug is right next to the motor and when the motor is out if IIRC the resistor is exposed right in the air stream of the blower.

I forgot to tell you that it isn't impossible to oil this motor. When you get it out, remove the wheel and then drill app. 1/8" hole in the end of the end bell of the motor oppposite the shaft and on the side of the other end bell next to the shaft. Then use a oiler can that can squirt under pressure to force oil to bearing. This will get oil to bearing. This will give it new life.
