My friend has a 97 ctd and he says that his truck blows blue smoke even when it is warmed up if it idles for more than ten minutes and blows white in the morning when started cold and he has to cycle it three times to get it to start any advise is helpful

it sounds like your friend has 370's in his truck. my truck blows white smoke when i first start it on a cold morning. the blue smoke is because after 10min of idleing the cylinder temps are down and not burning enough of the fuel being injected. look at what the truck idles at. that could be the problem with having to cycle the key 3 times to start. it should idle at 750-800 (auto trans in drive with ac on. )
