My 94 3500 4x4 has been upgraded to a 6spd, i pulled the pto cover off after hearing a noise in the transmission only to find teeth in the bottom. This truck is a heavy hauler with an 11foot utility body that is the service truck for my heavy equipment repair buisness and is used to alot of off road work. Parts for this trans are rare and expensive as well service information being scarce. I have half a thought and have heard of a 10spd swap before in tdr pages and am looking for that information too. I know a 10spd like the back of my hand and while the truck is down might as well go all the way.

It would be helpful if you could tell us what type of help you are looking for and where you are. Do you need help fixing the current 6 spd? Do you need help sourcing parts? If you have not tried the search function that may get you more information about the 10 spd swap. Good luck, and help us so we may help you.

I am in Northern New Hampshire. The plan is to rebuild the 6spd, but my transmission is going to need some hard parts in the rebuild which will be costly. and a reman is or used transmission are not cheap either. so while it is down i am going to research the ten spd option and have been using the search options and have located a few talks of people who have a friend who has one but no one personally. I will probably build the 6spd but would kick myself if i didnt look into the road ranger! i am new to tdr and learning how to get around in here.

I have looked at it myself and this what I have found.

It can be done, BUT, You will either have to use a body lift or a big tunnel in the cab. the ten speeds are a lot taller. Another problem is the the transfer case. No adapters available. The size of the transmission also will block the front shaft unless it hangs straight down. The best solution to this is a Timkin three shaft from an IHC 1600 or 1700. It a gear type and really strong. U-joints will be a problem too. The ten speed's shaft size makes it real hard to get yokes to match your needs.

Your exhaust will probable have to be routed outside the frame because of the width.

Another thing to think about is ratios You will have goobs of low gears but the OD will be only . 85 not as tall as you now have so top end will suffer.

Good Luck it would be a great conversion

sounds like a pain. i have decided to rebuild the transmission first, if the cost on parts is to high i will have to go with a good used transmission. from dodge a transmission is $5000, and just one of the gears i need is $500 so i need to do some shopping for used trans and some none dealer parts. Any ideas?

Try these guys very good! Blumenthals Ok city will ship 6 mo. unlimited miles warr. and their word is good, personal experience. R C Oo.

I have found bloomingthalls, and they are very helpfull, the website link has some good info too. I will give them a call, the transmission is a NV5600, and there are two versions, the earlier one having a narrower input shaft (99-01+-) and the newer version with which parts are more available for has a thicker input shaft, if you are looking for a serial # i can give you that too!

There is also Blue Chip Diesel in Hudson NH. 1-603-880-8141. Go Rt. 93 south to exit 4 and west on rt. 102 for 5 miles and left onto Rebel Rd.

Call Chip and he can get parts for you as well as have the transmission repaired.

Just another avenue for you to check out.
