2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Blown Brake Seal

At 62K miles I just blew the seal on my left front break. This dumped all the juice out of the brake system in one pump! Is this the start of a long string of failures in the bread system? I had a VW bug and I learned the hard way to change every seal in the the system when one failed. If I did one then the rest would start to blow one after another till all were new. Has any one on this board had this problem with therr Dodge? :--) I was on the x-way at speed and on the cell when this happened. I told the person on the phone that the next big sound they heard might be my last. Thankfully the e-break worked.

Lucky to be alive

Yo Matt,

I figure I'm lucky to be alive. One more time! I can get a truck replaced or repaired. It's my tired ol' a$$ that I don't want to have anything happen to. Worse yet I could have killed some poor soul minding their own business. I just hope this is the end of the break thing. We are trying to get something going in AZ like you folks have there with all the good times etc. Time will tell. Say HI to the gang.

Brake failure

The shuttle valve in the brake system should have switched and blocked off the front system and kept you from losing all the brake fluid, you should still have rear wheel brakes (which wouldn't be much) so if that didn't happen then you have other problems also. I have driven a Dodge truck more than 300,000 miles and never had a leak on the front brakes. bg

This might be the solution to my problem.

What is a shuttle valve and how does it work?



I just did the EGR system on my truck and when I was done could not seem to get the brakes bled right. Before, when I had removed the front calipers I was suprised to find very little fluid came out. Maybe this "shuttle" valve activated and prevented a loss of fluid? And maybe I have a bunch of air in the system as a result?
