The new KS B-1 is awsome!!

Spools up nicely around 1600 rpm and so far so good :D High boost pressure so far was around 48-50 psi I'm still trying to baby it, although I have put on 100+ miles breaking it in, once bitten twice shy as they say..... This turbo sounds great my wife says it sounds like were in a jet:D :D she hasn't been in the truck with the comp box on 5x5 at WOT yet:D

I paid Kurt full price for the turbo, so I'm not trying to pitch anything just stating the facts:)

I haven't looked at my EGT's at WOT but I'll let you guys know how much they dropped.

OK I'll bite :D

the oil filter is fed from the engines oil pump and can drain back as much as 2/3's at shut off. fresh oil is not supplied until the engine is cranked again. the idea of a preluber is to serve two purposes. the first, is to prelube the ENGINE before startup. the second is to continue to lube the engine after shutdown. this idea has been adapted to serve as a preluber for the turbine. to do this you need a source of oil to achieve that from. the pan is the only source. you would have to pump it through a filter if you are not secure with taking straight from the pan.

keep in mind the oil filter is the first thing in line after the pump. so to take from it (which our current turbo setup does) is the fastest way to get an oil feed. unless you want to rely on a dry sump setup to feed the turbo

Boy did this thread get out of hand.

I can understand why some vendors don't like posting on the TDR. I personally know of several cases where a customer will come onto the TDR to bad mouth a company thinking they will get free parts out of the deal to avoid the bad publicity. Surprisingly, it works in most cases, but to me that is a very poor way of conducting yourself and I would never stoop to that level.

I didn't originally come on the TDR to describe the failure because I was doing some R&D. When you want to go fast or push the limits, you have to be willing to break parts. But several people heard about the failure through the grapevine and started spreading rumors.

I never asked Kurt to replace the turbo because I never expected him to warrantee a second hand turbo. On top of that, I don't want another one. It hit 62 psi of boost in 2nd gear with no lockup. We all know as we increase the load on the engine the boost increases. Who knows how high it would have gone had it lived into overdrive and lockup, but it would have been easily over 70 psi. We did call and describe the breakage to him though because I'm sure he would like to know about it.

I had high hopes that the B1 would live with my truck because basically it was my last hope. I've broken an HX-35, HX-40, Pier's H2E, a hybrid H2E, and now a B1.

Now that I've exceeded the capability of a single turbo, my only option is twins.

B1

Chris, how did you deal with the wastegate? Did you have it pinned closed? Or were you running the actuater?

just to rectify.....

Some people are calling Chris (Strick-9) a bad apple or whatever, and throwing his story out the window because they don't beleive it, but Chris is an honest guy. I have met him on several occations, and I trust he did/has done all that he could have.

This thread took a bad turn, now lets move on to back to transmission wars insted. ;)

OK now I think Steve L has gone too far!!!

That's the only bad thing about the Internet, no one ever get to hear your (person speakings) tone of voice. I could be nice and calm but look harsh, just depends on how the person reading it takes the response (some people are just born or breed negative... not either of you) Kurt you and Chris are alright in my book.

For what it's worth, I agree. After reading all the posts, I never got the impression that Chris was expecting any kind of warranty service on his detonated B1. Nor did I get the impression that Kurt was denying any kind of warranty coverage. Both parties acted responsibly, courtesly and professionally. I'm glad much of their exchange took place here; it can almost serve as a fine example of continuing communications until perceived differences are eliminated. This has been one of the most civil vendor/customer exchanges I've seen.

I can understand both Kurt wanting to analyze the failed turbo *and* Chris wanting to hang it on his wall. (How many of us computer geeks have platters from failed disk drives hanging on *our* walls, or serving as coasters?)

While it is true that printed communication is usually rather devoid of emotion, it *is* possible to convey emotion. It just takes more effort, and more typing. That's why I use these silly asterisks! And things like <RANT>, </RANT>, <BEGIN TIRADE> and <CALMED DOWN>, as well as SHOUTING can be used to convey emotional state quite effectively.

And lest I babble incessantly for another 20 minutes... .

Well, So far...

I have noticed a pretty good decrease in EGT's, But can't really do a hard test, I'm having transmission problems right now and trying to work out the bugs with Bill K. at DTT, 3500 mile troubleshooting is a little tough.
