no no, not mine.

Buddy of mine has a 95 3500 CTD 5spd. Today she started knocking like hell and was blowing oil out the dipstick (still running by the way) The engine has 250k miles on it. He bought it used about 4-5 months ago. Sounds like she is runnin on 5 cylinders.

My guess is its either a busted rod, or a valve went through the piston. Not really sure though. Do ya'll think it would be worth rebuiling or dropping a new engine in it? Any of you got a good deal on a used motor?

Thanks for your help guys!

Unless you can find a good price on a junkyard motor, rebuilding (depending on what is wrong) should be less than building a new motor. Either way, it will still be a lot of $$$$

Is it 4x4? Might he want to sell as is?

nope. Its a 2wd RC LB Dually truck. No frill work truck. Its as basic as you can get. as far as selling, he may take that avenue. I dont know what axle it has, it may have the coil sprung tube axle or the IFS, I dont know. If its the coil sprung, would be an easy 4x4 swap.

First thing to do is to cease running it before more damage occurs. Second is to find out exactly what the problem is. From the description of the problem the dropped valve into a piston sounds quite possible.

Since the problem seems to be isolated into one cylinder it is possible to have that sleve, piston replaced and possibly some head work done to just get it running again, that could save a lot of $$ but will not likley hold any warranty.

Good luck with it, Byren
