This isn't really recent but it's been bothering me. Two years ago I bought my truck, '94 2500. About 3 months after I bought it the motor blew @ 184,000. Rod punched threw #1 cylinder and a piece bout the size of my fist between the #4 & #5 cylinders.

First thing the local dodge dealer said was "I've never heard that happening. "

So I'm wondering has anyone else had a similar exprience?

I could go on fir hours bout my transmission problems but I knew I was taking a chance buying the auto instead of the 5 speed.

I just thought of something. Could it have been the KDP? It blew a helluva alotta blue smoke. Didn't lose a drop of oil.

BLown

Yup, it has happened before(after?), Dad's 91. 5 threw the #4 rod thru the side taking the cam with it . The truck had 279K on it at the time.

Bad oil filter - Fram comes to mind.

Bad oil - The recent Shell Rotella-T full synthetic scare is reason enough to believe that other oil suppliers could and have had some bad batches go out the door.

It had a Wix on at the time. And I was running Rotella 15w-40. I just can't understand it. I pulled the dipstick right after it blew and it was sitting at the full mark.

motor

We use fram filters and 15w40 pennziol, we have 175 5. 9s with over 250,000 and no motor troubles at all in school buses that are driven WFO!!

**ding!, ding!, ding!** We have a winner!

Dieseldemon is right... .

I have heard about WAY too many 6BT's biting the dust from clogged piston cooler nozzles.

The 6BT isn't alone in this battle against clogged cooler nozzles..... they're a necessary evil.

blown

in the case of my father's, that is not what happened. It looks llike the conn. rod came loose from the crank on the downward stroke, and the crank pushed the rod thru the side when it came back around.

TSB from DC

There are only seven filters that DC will permit us to use should we desire to keep our trucks ''warranty compliant'' 3 are Fleetguard, 1 cummins, 1 motorcraft, 1 purolator, and 1 AC Delco

Not trying to flame or get flamed, but why would you want to give Chrysler a reason to deny warranty coverage?

Do a search -- type in ''approved and filters'' this will give you the approved list
