question

what kinda boost does it take to blow your headgasket with an O-ring head? i am about 95% sure mine is and i might be in the low 60's for boost with 19. 5* of timing. its dark and raining outside flash light batteries are dead... ... and i am spose to go to sleep now

anyhow i have noticed a loss of top end for a little while now, then a little bit of buring antifreeze smell for a bit. thought it came out of my overflow when i took a bump really hard..... ingnorance is bliss. then she went and got warm on me so i am thinking its blown. like i said i cant see anything right now to see if there is anything in the radiator. i could tell there was somthing down in there a ways, but not what it was if it was oily and what not.

now with that... what would be my best option for a new head gasket? i am working on a twins get up now as well.

i am not sure about which to get... . the stock style? thicker than stock? or a copper one?

please help me out here i need to know by monday so hopefully i can piggy back it on a order i already made from piers. get her back on the road as soon as i can.

thank you

When I blew my stock gasket out last year, it filled the overflow tank and blew water out of it! It blew the gasket from #5 forward and to the pass side to the cooling hole.

I just put my head back on yesterday. Mine blew at the water jackets on the 4 center cylinders on the passenger side. There was no loss of compression the "O" rings held and the sealer I put in stopped the water leak from the gasket.

hmm. same deal as mine center 4 cylinders... . no loss of compression. what sealer are you talking about? i ordered all the replacement stuff already, but if it will stop it from leakin till it gets here i am all for that.

i blew my stock one at only 32 lbs of boost, took a chunck of the compression ring out and part of the gasket is mia. i will post a pic of it later tonight. just get it fire ringed and forget it, and get head studs to keep her good and snug.
