This is on my son's truck. An 05 auto with a TST Powermax CR. 25 k miles

Dealer has been waranteeing them. One blew up before he got it home from the dealer... 10 miles.

This one has lasted a couple of months.

The TST is set to defuel at 39 psi. He hasn't towed or hauled anything with the last two turbos. He does have a very heavy foot but his juiced up 94 still survives.

Is this normal for an 05 to chew up stock turbos with a TST box?

Thanks in advance.

Jay

The stock sensor only reads up to about 39psi and thats what the TST gets its data from. So if he was hitting 5000psi that sensor would still only see 39psi :-laf

Does he have the wastegate/boost line hooked up that tst provides?

The TST will most definitely chew up stock turbos if you're not careful.

I had mine set to defuel at 35psi and never had a problem.

I've always found that number funny. I can see 40 on my edge, and every now and again, 41 PSI. :)

If you run the turbo well beyond what it was designed for, yeah, you could expect to blow it up. I can't believe the dealer is so stupid they haven't figured out what is going on. How about having your son pony up for an appropriate turbo? Sure would save the rest of us paying his dishonest warranty claims.

Ooops. . I guess that would explain quite a bit.

Not sure about the wastegate line... I'll have to check it out.

He would and will gladly do that... but no need to get nasty here. He never removed the TST box ... actually he volunteered that info to the dealer. He gives them a lot of business so they closed one eye I think.

Anyway 10 miles is a little ridiculous IMO.

That really depends on how he drove those ten miles. 39psi with a brand new turbo, and ten miles is all it will take. Now, if he kept it under say 15 psi, then yeah, ten miles is ridiculous.

With the wastegate line on that TST provides I have never had more than 34psi confirmed on a manual guage and then drops back to 28-29 via wastegate. I would not even want my stock turbo to hit 40psi, unless I was ready to upgrade.

my turbo his 40+PSI many times a day. . Only after fully warmed up. Dunno if Amsoil has anything to do with it. I don't bark the turbo but once a blue moon. I should get a mechanical gauge some day to see were she really gets to.

Also, it was stock till about 30,000 miles and was full of amsoil since 12,000 miles or something.

BHolm, don't take this the wrong way but we're all extremely tired of your warranty preaching. I think this is the 7th one I've seen from you in posts all around TDR. It really distracts from the initial question. If you want to start a thread on how people are screwing dealers out of warranty claims then go ahead. At least you would only attract people who want to hear it. We don't.

On that note, I have sometimes seen low 40's on the edge so I think the sensor can read over 39 PSI. The edge is getting it's info right from the sensor.

There are more than a few of us here tired of seeing posts like 'my bombed truck is on its 4th 48re. dc sucks!' posts. people come here all the time complaining about how dc doesn't stand behind their products when stock components give out because they are being used and abused beyond thier design parameters. people need to sack up and take responsibility for their actions and not be shocked or whine when a warranty claim is denied. i'm with bholm on this one.

Dude, I'm not saying don't talk about it. Just go somewhere else and express your opinion. Start a warranty thread or something. This thread was started to answer JLEONARD's question. BHolm's and your opinions DO NOT answer his question and DO NOT warrant a sermon. So please do all of us people a favor that actually need mechnical help with our trucks and keep your ethical opinions about warranties to yourself. You just ruin threads with your sermons. Thanks!

JLEONARD never said DC Sucks. Sounds like his dealer treated him very well. How does that warrent a sermon?

ANYWAYS BACK TO THE PROBLEM AT HAND :-{}

Had a duramax 4500 flat bed truck blow a few turbos before the tech figured

out the cat was all plugged up, causing way too much heat and backpressure.

maybe something to think about.

That's right I never said that anyone sucks. Just trying to understand the and solve the problem.

After all... see my signature. . I'm just a first gen guy with pre intercooled technology here to learn sumptin.

But that aside, my son owns/operates a very successful auto repair shop... he deals with/gives warantees every day on his work, replaces parts and eats the labor, so he knows the playground.

Anyway, I talked with him and since he's not a computer guy wants me to research for a turbo that can take what he dishes out.

So I'll start looking.

He tows sometimes, but usually not real heavy. He does do some hauling as he's rebuilding a house and barn. His foot is damn near always to the floor

I can do some archive searching, but if anybody wants to make a suggestion on this thread feel free. Other wise I won't add to it.

And again, I do thank all of you for the help.

Jay

With the antique first gen

Those stinkin undervalved guys with the funky intake runnin over the valve covers, yeah, I know about them guys :-laf
