Blue chip VP44 pump review

Just installed one of Chips' pumps on my son's 01. Pump quality looked to be excelent. Truck runs great. Chip was easy to deal with and his price is competetive for what you get. Prompt shipping. A+ and would buy from him again.

Let us know how the truck works after he gets some miles on it. I'm interested in knowing if the mileage is better, I wonder as I'm thinking the timing would be better with the new pump. I understand that some rebuilt pumps are not as "rebuilt" as others.

Chip does it right. The truck accelerated harder right off. Look at Chip's site as he has all the info on what he does to the pumps different than most rebuilders. Truely a quality rebuild.

This is Brian, I used to get about 18 to 19 mpg at 70mph on the highway and after a New Years trip i put on 248 miles with an average mpg of 22 so the pump has restored some mileage as the only other thing we did was install an Airdog 100 on it. Truck does feel like it pulls stronger. All in all a great investment and a true testament to the old statement "you get what you pay for. "

Wow! I could not have said it better. A chip off the old block. (No pun intended)

The old man

P. S. The Air Dog system looks to be a quality unit also. But,,,, one needs to wire feed the mounting bracket to the frame. The way it comes with three bolts is 'Mickey Mouse' to say the least! Once my son gets back home this summer we will weld the mounting bracket to the frame.

Also, we just mounted Chip's Nylon plate on the pump, so Brian could use his "Quadzilla" unit without voiding the warranty. (Nice unit also) Holy crap! On level ten the truck pulls like a Z06 vette!!!! I'm getting way too old for that kind of speed. Also, I'm surprised the trans does not grenade with that kind of power!!!!!!

The guy that installed my new VP44 weeks back had recommended Blue Chip, since he had apparently installed several from there and had good results. I paid this guy lots of money to install my new IP and an AirDog 150 at the same time. Took the truck back and it died two hours later. Blue Chip shipped me a garbage pump. Replaced with another one, great result thus far.

For all of our info, why don't you call Chip and see what was wrong with the first pump.

Sometimes even the best shop has a bad day or a bad unit. Don't let a failure in a world full of mechanical things looking for a place and time to die, deter you from trying a product.

Installed one of Chips pumps almost three years ago. NO problems, excellent customer services, very helpful with all questions. Seems like it ran smoother/more power.

If you have any questions call Chip.

We have had a Blue Chip VP44 on my gals 01. 5 6spd for some time now and are very satisfied with the pump. I am not sure if there was any mileage gain or not as she drives with the Edge on all the time and we had no real data to compare before and after. The one thing to make SURE of when you talk to Chip is to remember to tell him if yours is a HO or a SO. The shop that ordered my gals did not and she wound up with a SO instead of a HO and the truck ran like crap. A simple call confirmed their mistake and the HO pump was installed and it has been flawless since.

She has a Edge Attitude, does not have the big program in it and when we dynoed it the truck made 310hp/800tq with a 35inch tall tire and 3. 55's. She was quite happy with Chip's pump and the way it drives and we would do it again. It may be a tad more than the other guys VP's cost wise but I'll gladly pay a bit more for the customer service and good parts anyday... ... ... Andy

Chip operates his business with a high degree of integrity. He's always helpful and if he's not up to his neck in alligators, he'll answer the phone and take the time to assist you.

I ran the first pump that I got from him for about 10 months. It started to do this high rpm cut-out w/no codes which is normally always the computer on top of the pump. These are problematic, even the new ones from Bosch.

Chip sent me a new one under his one year warranty. I've probably put about 750 miles on it w/out any issues. Chip has tried remote mounting the computer; no go - to much RF interference. He's tried making a kit to keep the lift pump going to keep it cool; no go - pump's shaft has to operate to pump fuel along w/the lift pump.

Basically, he said it's a crap shoot on the computers. He changes all of them, some last longer than others. What I do know is that at 2K a pop, I'm saving for a P-pump conversion kit.

I too am the proud owner of a Blue Chip pump. I can't say enough good things about how much help he was when I dropped the new key into the timing cover last weekend. They are some great people to deal with. I can't wait fire it up, if my injectors will ever get here... .
