East Tennessee TDR Dodgers Annual Fall Rally in the Valley

Performance Diesel's 4th Annual Dyno Day

You know how the weather goes around here: winter, spring, winter, summer, winter, summer, winter, summer, spring, summer, spring, summer, fall, summer, winter, fall, spring, winter... . And to think those poor handicapped Minnesota folks only have two seasons: winter and the Fourth of July. And the desert southwest folks only have Hades and January 12th. The great PNW? April showers year round. They all know what to expect and when to expect it. Here, we have to check the weather conditions every day. And sometimes several times a day. And all too often, after we've checked and dressed appropriately, the weather has changed by the time we get outside. This is the main reason why businesses have a hard time succeeding around here; most employees find it's easier to stay home than it is to bring spring, summer, fall and winter changes of clothes to work every day. People think we Blue Ridge types are wusses when we go up north and wear a parka when it's 40F. We're not really that cold; we just expect the weather to change rapidly and unexpectedly, and we like to be ready for it - take the parka off or zip it up, as needed.

I think I'm starting to sound like Garrison Keillor. Maybe we need to start a new thread: "Blue Ridge Cabin Buddy".

:)

That's what I am talking about. :-laf

Segway

Mount a caster wheel on a hydraulic piston that's connected to a hand lever.

When you squeeze the lever, the caster wheel is lowered and raises the non-steering wheels off the ground so you can steer. Release the lever, and you go straight again.

Or you could convince your insurance to rent you a Segway for a few months. :)

Sounds like a great idea for steering. I even thought about swivel wheels on the front and two independent brakes, one on each rear wheel to facilitate steering... but, by the time I make it home in the evening, my good leg is so worn out that the garage is not even an option now... 1 more week and I go back to see if he'll let me put some weight on that foot, but I kinda doubt it. Still swells up by mid afternoon, and I'm not even using it yet... .

Who can I call? I'm ready for one of them there Segways...

I'm tired of this stupid boot, and crutches????#@$%! I've thrown them across the room a couple of times, really far after you fall on your knee and it hurts so bad you can't even say anything! After they fix my foot, I'll have to have a knee replacement!!! The scooter is still working, although it's been worked HARD!!! My left knee has caluses on the knee cap that won't quit!

If it's not the weird weather, it's this stupid broke foot that drives me crazy! I'm with you Norm, ready for some warmer weather and for the foot to stop swelling up! Don't anyone break their foot!!! It's not at all what it's cracked up to be!

I like the nickname for my truck, the Tobey Tour Truck. I think it's gonna stick...

Speaking of April, the DHRA Rockingham race is this Saturday evening. There's a Mopar event there that runs until 5 or so. Then the DHRA racing starts up around 6:30.

If you aren't too far away, it's a good chance to see, if I may :), the movers and shakers of the 2007 DHRA drag racers, especially the 12. 0 and 10. 5 index classes.

I'm heading down Friday morning to set up. But I might head back to Salem for my brother's 50th birthday party, then head back Saturday morning, and maybe home again Saturday night if the racing doesn't run too late. It's only three hours each way!

...

Tarnation! Weatherunderground's forecast ain't lookin' too good. Hopefully the low over Chicago and the fronts will move far enough east to keep the rain in eastern NC.

Sorry, Norm! I've been learning to walk again on the bum foot, with the big black boot & all, and now my boss has taken back his scooter before I got to motorize the thing! Dr. says the bone's not healing, the ends of the bone are turning black, and he hopes that by walking on it with the boot it will force enough circulation to start the healing process... If not, then in 4 weeks I get to have a screw put in it. Oh well... .

How are ya, Norm?

How'd the weather do in Rockingham, fester?

Well, that bites! God gives you two feet to stand on, then takes one back for a while. Either you learn to be humble, or you learn to find the humor in it. Or you revel in the glorious indignity of it all!

Weather held off. It didn't start raining until an hour after we got to the motel, although there were some drops in the air a couple times during the day. Really couldn't ask for a better day to race!

Had the truck checked out. One trans line was leaking, which seems to be the cause of all the trans fluid loss. A/C was recharged and works OK. For now. It seems when the systems gets cold, all the freon leaks out. But after 225,000 miles and 9. 5 years without ever being taken apart, I guess it's entitled. Brakes, of course, were working flawlessly; I'm sure at some point during the trip they'll screw up and I'll have a near hit or two. And cruise control still doesn't work; the servo may be the problem. I'll have to check the electrical stuff sometime, just to be sure it isn't wiring. Greased all the joints, changed the full flow filter and topped off the oil. It's as ready as it can be for a 6,000 mile drive. Now if I can just keep everyone from overloading the truck and trailer, I'll make the run safely.

I'll be hitting the road with the trailer Monday morning to IN to pick up some stuff, thence to Mesquite, NV for Wednesday evening. I'll likely be offline for a week or more.

Ol' Gimpy is hobblin' 'round rather spritely these days. I dropped my 215 injectors off to be reworked. I've been running them 145K miles (after Piers had 'slightly used' them), so they were due for servicing. I put the original 180s in. A noticeable drop in power and max boost, but I still managed 83 MPH over Sandstone Mt. , so they aren't *too* bad. And judging by how much quieter and smoother the 180s are (only had 93K miles on them), the 215s *really* needed work. And they do smoke less (almost less than I do!) BRD 'quoted' three days, but since I have the 180s and they are working well, I didn't bother to check before I left for Elgin on Friday: niece's graduation and 18th b-day, as well as the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Elgin's new Festival Park down by the riverboat casino - I was volunteered to hold up one end of the ribbon for the cutting :).

But Wed. is preparation for Indy this weekend, and I leave Thursday for that. From there, to Elgin again for the week, then to Union Grove for the pull next weekend. Then home for a day or two, then to Clay City for the drag races that weekend. Then I *think* I get to stay home for a few weeks.

July-7-2007 sounds good to me. I'm trying to talk the boss lady into coming. She like tractor pulls so she should enjoy a good truck pull. Any other wives going? Don't be shy , tell them they will fit right in. I'm for buying this time, but tailgating would be fun.
