2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Stuck Stacks

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) POS Throttle linkage

After starting the truck this morning and letting the oil pressure build up I backed out of the drive and then put the 5-speed in 1st and started down the road. After shifting into 2nd and applying throttle the engine hesitated and a bluish white smoke came out of the exhaust. I let off the throttle to let the engine smooth out and then continued on. The truck ran fine all day and no problem starting. The engine is building about 32psi of boost.

Any ideas on what be happening?

TIA

Blue and White on a cold engine is fuel, by itself or with antifreeze. Monitor the coolant level for any useage. Possibly could be air in the fuel system, if it only did it once and worked itself out. (Most likely) Air entry on the return side when it sits, like over night, can get back into the supply side where connected at the filter housing. (I don't like the return fed into the supply) It takes a little time, but the air gets sucked back through the pump, then can cause white smoke as it exits through the injectors. Since air is compressable, in the injector it screws up the spray and exits at low pressure, resulting in poor burn or no burn, which was your miss. Antifreeze puddling on the piston or in an inlet port can do it too, but not likely if performance was good later.

Check fuel lines for tightness or worn spots. Could be on the supply side too.

See if it does it again after it sits overnight.

One last comment. Sometimes you can get a miss if you overfuel and over load / over accererate cold, usually on the first or 2nd gear at the first start if at low rpm (1200 - 1500). I have heard this miss on many 1st gen with rotary pumps. In fact, I have seen them flame out entirely, until the driver got off the gas.

good Luck

Isn't blueish white smoke also related to oil being introduce into fuel/air mixture.

Caused by several things, one of the worse cases is injector pump starting to fail, oil seal at turbo leaking a little.

Was it a cold morning RWorth? My truck misses and smokes (blue/white) quite a bit when I start off down the road on cold mornings. Just the nature of the beasts, especially when they're bombed and dumping a little more fuel in there than stock.

RWorth;

Did you install the #11 plate, AFC spring, change AFC tension, advance timing during the warmer summer months? That will show up as the weather, especially morning temperatures cool.

If none of the fore mentioned was changed, then I suspect your timing may be slipping.

A third posibility is a charge air system leak.

My timing is overly advanced and it really is annoying on the cooler mornings. More smoke and poor performance in low RPM.

diesel on
