Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Blumenthal trans NV4500

I lost 5th gear. After talking and looking around, it sounded like for the money( alot ), a Blumenthal with the fully splined main shaft was the way to go.



Now I'm hearing that maybe the Quad 4X4 with the torque king main shaft may be better. Please, anyone let me know. I just dropped alot of cash and don't want to feel bummed. Unless the Quad 4X4 is more expensive, or that the Blumenthal will work just fine. I went for the rebuild because of the milage instead of a band aid nut fix.



Also, I'll be real careful pulling hills in fifth. I don't haul much, just a Callen camper and all the stuff to stay in Baja for a couple of weeks. Thanks...

I would seriously consider Quad 4X4. Dan is great and VERY knowledgeable about the NV 4500. I have used him for information, parts and when it comes time for rebuild I'll get all the parrts from him and do it myself (I am a competent mechanic). I found Dan resonable and always delivered what he promised. You can't get much better than that.

Ditto about Dan at Quad 4X4.

I'v gotten fully splined main shafts, gears,different types of 5th gear nuts, and so-fourth from Dan. He's a great guy to deal with.

I know of one member on here who had a horror story with several of Blumenthal's rebuilt NV4500's. I've never heard anything negative about the Quad4x4 stuff. I do believe his TorqueKing stuff is a step above anybody else's rebuilt NV4500s also.

I just upgraded my 4500 with a Quad 4X4 silver torque king kit. Got their pictured book to do it with some of their tools. Fantastic kit! Everything is there that you need. If you have any questions, just call and ask Dan. The man knows everything about this transmission and then some. I place Quad 4X4 right up there with Southbend Clutch. An awesome outfit. If you decide to get the kit, pm me and I'll give you a couple of clues on what to avoid to make the job eaiser.
