5th wheel tow

... . but theyr'e not twins.

I was reading an interesting article in one of the auto mags, where the driver tested a new 4L diesel that BMW is using in the 5 series cars in europe. The tester had nothing but good to report with the abundance of torque and great mileage in the current version.

But what I found interesting was the new design that BMW was working in prototype. It was a dual turbo system with a small and large turbo, and a system of electrically controlled butterfly valves to control the flow of exhaust gas and fresh air. They were using the small turbo at low rpm's for quick spool up, and then directing the gasses to the big turbo at higher rpm's. Initial reports are nearly no smoke and great performance numbers.

Don't know if this is a new concept or not, but I thought it was pretty good stuff.

Why not just use a VGT? I understand this would allow more range but wow, two turbo's plus piping and valves to direct air, sounds like a headache after a few years.
