I did some work for a fish farm here and they had a "work-boat" powered by a volvo-penta inline 6,turbo and aftercooled with outdrive and counter-rotating props that cruised at at least 45 mph!!!!! The down side was it spent more time being worked on then "working"---This thing was 29' long and about 10' wide and hauled A$$ when it ran!!! They replaced outdrives and repaired same several times per month---didn't handle for I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER off-plane---but when running at speed was sweet!!!!!!! Was a really fun boat except when "ROWING" back to the dock!!!!!!

These boats run Hell's Canyon. they will easly go faster then 55 mph, I know first hand as they bolw by my boat that runs a 454 CID Chevy, that runs at 55 mph, it doesn't sound fast, but on water it's plenty. I'll try to talk to a friend, that biulds boats in Lewiston, and see if I can come up with some stats. on these boats.

5.9 Marine cummins

I have a 33ft Fiberglass boat powered by twin 5. 9 Cummins 280hp at 2600 rpm. The engines are the 12v type. I would like to up the hp to 370. Would injectors do it. Speed at 2340 rpm 22. 5 Knots or 25. 58 mph. I also have a 30 ft Alum powered by volvo 170 diesels cruise 26 knots to end 31 knots. I repowered the Alum boat I used to have yamaha stern drives. Cruise was 34 knots to end was 48 knots. The yamaha's where powered by 350 chevy engines at 250 hp. The volvo's get 2. 5 miles per gal the chevy's go 2. 1 miles per gal. The Alum boat weights 9700lbs the fiberglass boat 18000. The cummins get 1. 25 miles per gallon. I tow the Alum boat from Valdez AK to my home in Fairbanks AK using my 02 Dodge 6sp HO 355. Hardest pull Thomson pass 47 mph in fifth gear. Boat and trailer 11997lbs. Love the Cummins engines and the Dodge truck.
