In reference to the Smarty Jr.
On my truck it seems the Economy setting is agressive on take off and levels off the more throttle I use.

Towing setting is less agressive on take off with little throttle but increases throttle response the more You push down on the throttle.

Performance setting seems to be the least agressive on take off using little throttle but the response is greater the more you push the throttle.

My question is, is this the way the Jr. is set up to help the transmission live longer or am I driving through the transmission with the extra power.

Of course if I punch the throttle in any setting she goes like a raped ape. :)

Just trying to understand how it works for my towing, fuel mileage, and auto transmission concerns.

Thanks,

Seems like Bob and Marco are quiet on TDR lately, in fact on all the forums...

Must be working hard on something. You will probably have quicker response on comp or dtr though...

pwr2tow,
I'm not so sure what your question is.
Let me start with saying that the throttle response is set to the same values through all the softwares. That's what confuses me to start with. I've checked the softwares to see if eventually something has been set up wrong. Everything that's related with the throttle response is a OK. I've test driven the three levels and to me the throttle response seems the same in all 3 SW's.
(BTW my test mule/ Daily driver is an '06 AT like yours. )

If your concern is if the AT can handle the extra power then my answer is, as long as you don't abuse it constantly... yes. I would not recomend boosted launches with a stock transmission even at stock HP level. I think you get the pic...

Before we released the Jr we have done extensive testing and I have tuned the power in way to not harm a stock engine / driveline as long as it is not abused.

Helps?

Marco

Thanks for the response Marco.
Maybe I'am just being more careful with the throttle on the 70 and 100 Hp levels Knowing I have all that extra power and could hurt my drive train. I drive like I have an egg under the peddle most of the time.

Looks like you might of helped out around 300 other guys and gals checking on this thread. Thanks for taking the time to respond. :)

Great product by the way, works better than any other diesel performance product I've used, and I've tried alot of them. Delivered everything I expected so far.

Bob and Marco. . I was excited when I first discovered this thread as I was ready to email Bob with a similar question. Since my question/comment is close to the original, I will continue here.

I have tested the level one software and posted both the subjective and objective results here:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com.../197303-actual-smarty-jr-mpg-catcher-1-a.html

I then loaded level two to run a similar test and have not quite finished my first tank of 'gold fuel' (aka diesel). My first impressions are:

1. I cannot detect the increased hp.

2. Even though the power seems similar to level one, the engine seems to be working harder (not smooth and quiet).

3. Mileage appears to be very close to the stock setting.

4. I also agree with pwr2tow on where power versus throttle occurs.

Here are my questions. If you ran all three Catcher levels on the same dyno mounted truck what would the three hp curves look like if they were overlayed on the same sheet of paper? Would the curves look roughly the same with the exception of the higher hp peaks, or is there a shift (left or right) in the curves? Does Smarty Jr do anything to alter transmission shift points based on SW level? Using the above example, what would the three torque curves look like?

Since I have 50 hp DDP injectors is there a chance that this affects what I am experiencing? Since the two of you appear to disagree on the applicability of the Jr with injectors, it would be informative to hear the reason why (more than yes or no)!

I am absolutely happy with the Jr and would repurchase it JUST for the level one gain in performance, mileage and a smoother running engine! I will still complete my testing at level two then on to level three.

Thank you in advance for any new information.

Your injectors would definatly change the behavior of the truck. I do know that all the softwares were done using stock trucks so yes your injectors would influance how your truck runs.

you can not load the smarty junior software into smarty. The firmware is different.
