Does anyone have burnout vids from ORP Friday night?

CAUTION: About doing business with DTR member Warlord

There is a clutch (clutch?) of Bob White here at the school behind the bus garage/football stands in a grove of white pine (and poison ivey).

I began to hear the familiar call "bob-whyte!" anout a week ago. I have not heard that sound in about thirty years. The males are walking around the school grounds calling us.

One of them wondered into the garage this AM.

They are wonderful to have around again.

That's pretty cool Scott! When I was younger and lived with my parents in the country I would see them occasionally, not too many around these parts. Covy is what I called the small flock... I would see them when out hunting rabbits and squirels or pheasants, never shot at them though, figured there were so few around I would let them alone. It was more fun to see them and watch them.

Mesquite grilled with fajitas is my favorite. But actually I prefer the store bought (pen raised) over wild quail. We have them every fall at the ranch but the wild quail are quite a bit tougher and rather "stink" when you clean them.

Mesquite grilled quail w/ fajitas

mexican rice, frijoles a la charra, pico de gallo, and home made flour tortillas. Oo.

:--)

The web site lists them "near endangered"

Anyway, it mentioned that they are now raised in captivity and released to the wilds for hunting purposes.

My yard is a magnet for breeding, Robins in habit my cherry tree, every year for about 5 years. The last couple years the Quail are making the trek from a block away to use my neighbor hood, and my yard, for there nesting and hatching the little ones. kind of neat to have them around, even though they are very skittish and not to trusting. And the birds that migrate, stop off on there way south and when they return. Some finches decided to take up residence and not migrate any more.

Marv.

We have a lot of beautiful quail in our neighborhood. I don’t think they are the Bob Whites. The call of these Idaho birds is different from the Bob Whites I remember from my Nebraska days. I sure enjoy watching them and listening to them.
