Has anyone put a body lift on a newer style Dodge, I was wondering I've got a Skyjacker on mine now but I want about 2 more inches or maybe just like a one inch and make my own has anybody installed one, what did you have to move, legthen, or screw with to put this under.
Thanks

One inch- no problem, two inch- Radiator may need to be lowered all hoses leading to vent tubes need to be watched that they don't get tight, fuel filler may need to be lengthened, you will have a see thru space under your bed. A two inch kit would come with instructions for other things to watch.

You need new brackets to relocate the bumpers. You might need to lengthen the steering shaft depending on the hight of the bodylift and the amount of slip in the shaft, if any. You didn't say if your truck is auto or 5spd. If it is a 5 speed, you will need extensions for the shifter and transfer case. There is much more involved than the cheap price of a body lift leads you to believe.

My advice would be to look for a taller lift. 4"-5".

Thought about that already Jeff but I need to keep my driveline angles straight as I can so I dont' blow U Joints when hooking to a sled to pull! I think I have some poly stock to make a 1" kit out of I just need to get under and count how many body mounts their is. I think I can notch the front bumper to raise the 1" and my rear bumper is adjustable mounts for it is a drop bumper. Thanks you guys.

There are a few guys on here already running a 4"-5" lift without driveline problems, but I don't think any are pulling a sled. I'm considering a 5" for myself and I was conserned about driveline angles. I think dropping the carrier bearing down will help. I might even have a 1 piece custom made to eliminate the bearing. I'm just not a fan of body lifts personally.

I think there is only 10 mounts. One on each fender, 4 on the cab, and four on the bed. Not real sure.

A buddy of mine is running a 3" body lift on a '98 QC. I would stay away from body lifts totally. Remember that the radiator and the intercooler are bolted to the rad. support(body). These get raised with the body lift. The body lift comes with brackets to lower the fan shroud, so now your fan draws air off center of the radiator and intercooler. Also the intercooler rubber hoses are now pinched and strained, due to the intercooler being raised. If I were you, I'd look more into a suspension lift. Just my thoughts.

I would have to say NO WAY to the body lift on a diesel. I install lift kits on the side when I'm not ruining someones driving record or taking some junk semi off the streets. It has been my experience that the body lift kits, Trailmaster, Performance accessories, etc, all say in the instructions sheet: NOT FOR USE WITH DIESEL ENGINE. In my experience, the Performance Accessories kit for the dodge is the nicest kit for DODGES as long as you have a gasser.

The kits for the gas trucks come with a steering shaft extension, a fuel filler hose extension, front bumper brackets, radiator shroud drop brackets, longer bolts and the blocks.
Most trucks have one mount on each side in the front, (4) cab mounts on standard cab, (6) on extended cab models, and (6) or (8) on the bed depending on long or short bed. Some trucks do have (8) on the beds even on short beds.
So for my opinion, for what it is worth, if you want the extra height, I would recomend the suspension, even though it is more money, you may be able to sell your old suspension kit.
The SKYJACKER kit looks nice and the DICK CEPEK 6" kit is AWSOME, and will clear 38" tires unless heavy off-roading is planned.

Lawdog,
Dick Cepek went out of bussiness about 6-8 months ago and the lifts are very discreet if you find one buy it! I cannot go with anymore Suspension due to pulling on a sled driveline angles are too extreme, I'm only going to go with like a 1" just to make my 33's look good. I'm on the 4 wheel drive show circuit with this truck and have seen alot of dodges with body lifts and dodges hide a 2-3 inch body lift very well the frame does not hang down like chevy's but I don't want to mess with the way my truck gets air or the intercooler lines. I think there is enough adjustment left in the stock mounts on the bumper to deal with the 1" Poly blocks I'm gonna put in. If not I've got a Plasma cutter at the garage and I can notch the holes for more adjustment.

Go for it. I have a 5 1/2" suspension lift and 3" body lift and in a years use, I've never had a problem. All they do is rotate one intercooler elbow and cut the other. Other than that, its the same as a gasser. If you go to bigger tires, make sure they are D rated, I used C's and they do come apart if you tow anything. Also Con-Ferr.com has a cool front axle truss for our Rams, mines in the chrome shop right now. By the way, my muffler and resonator fell off at 8:30 this morning, darn thing!!!!! Good luck and I say raise the **** out of it, you wont be sorry!!

smokincummins, you are correct, the dodge does not show the frame with a body lift. I quess I learned something today, that you can put a body lift in a DIESEL, I personally have never done one or have seen one done, but I have not been to any of the big shows like the jamborees in Indy since I took my old toy in '98. I will agree with you that you should be able to get by with a 1" body lift but be carefull to watch your fan to shroud clearance, and PLEASE dont use hockey pucks, SCARY, I have seen them come apart. . GOOD LUCK and send pictures, I love lifted trucks and do not see enough rams or dodges for that matter.
I am getting alot of PEER PRESSURE to lift mine, but I am trying to hold off for the 2003 4 door with the cummins and allison that my friend at DC assures me is coming in 2003. I think I can sell mine for more if it is still stock height, so I can step up first for the 2003. Then we'll go BIG.

That's what I'm talking about LAWDOG, yeah the diesel are hitting the show scene with a passion everybody likes them because they come well equipped like mine has Dana 80 in rear and Dana 60 in front that's a chunk of change if you have to go buy that when your building your toy up. Hey no prob with the pic's I just installed a Skyjacker on my buddies dually two days ago if I can get enough of this polyuthene round stock that I have at the shop I'll put it on. Trust me I won't use HOCKEY PUCKS it's unsafe and my friends would give me **** !!! THANKS FOR THE INFO

Smoknn, whats your buddy running for tires on his lifted dually? I'm thinking of a 5" lift and then having a set of factory steel dually wheels widened to 10" and change the offset a little for 36/12. 5-16 tires.

:cool :cool Jeff Clark, for a good picture of a HUGE Ram dually, even though it has four too many cylinders, check out: www.siblingrivalry.com
There are some awsome looking trucks on the site and thru the links. Even tells stories on the trucks and shows them racing at the strip ect.

Hey Jeff

Those dually's Lawdog said to look at are nice as **** and I know the Miozzi brothers from the show, there rearends have been narrowed a bunch to keep them inside the fenders and still look good. A guy I know is running a set of Q78 Buckshots that look killer on his dodge dually with stock rims and a lift I think their equal to a 36"

I've seen those trucks. Very nice. A little out of my price range. I've seen the Q78 size. They are available from several companies. I like the Cooper Super Traction in that size. I have also thought about the 34/9-16 Super Swampers on factory size rims. Thing is that they would probably fit without any lift b/c they're only an inch taller than what I have now.

Just some new info..... Latest news on 2003 4 door. CUMMINS still there followed by the 6 speed allison auto YEAH. The little boy trucks, I mean the 1500's will be independant fronnt suspension YUCK, BUT the 2500 and 3500 4x4's will still be solid axle, YEAH. So, it sounds like as soon as they are availiable to be ordered, I'll have to step up, and hopefully make Indy that year with weld wheels and some 35"BFG's, or bigger.

I lifted a friends Excursion with a Power Stroke with a fab tech 5 1/2 kit, dual remote resivoir fox shocks, chrome go-rhino trusses, polished aluminum diff covers ect. He put the 37" goodyear mud t/a's off a hummer on weld wheels and it rocks. Of course he has a HUGE chip , custom dual exhaust. he also has a twin turbo system waiting for it. Since he is who I install lifts for from his shop, I would like to out do his truck, except he has ALOT more cash than I do. MY estimate on his Excursion Limited, is about $90,000. 00

I just added a gasser 3/4 ton lift to my 3" spacers in front and the gasser rearched in the rear. Its the softride system from skyjacker and man I can tell you this thing now rides like a 1/2 ton. Its a nice ride. I now have a total of 6. 5 inches from stock and all angle are fine. I also have another stage II 3" lift if anyones interested. I also have my bfg m/t's with 80% on 2 and 60% on the other 2. I now have 35x14. 50x16. 5 swamper radials and have a ton of room for the 37x 13. 00x 16. 5 I will be running in competition. Oh boy the truck goes in for its performance inhancements tomarrow. mmmmmmm 12 second 4x4 on 35's.
Later Adam

That's what I like to hear My 6 that's awesome. I need to stay on the ground so what 3. 5 to 4 will do me fine for throwing 11R 22. 5 dump truck tires in the back by myself sometimes and using it for farmin' go for 11 second run then you'll have to wear a helmet and maybe a rollcage!!!!
