At least a couple of times a week, my horn honks three times when I use the remote to unlock the truck. I understand that this is a signal that the factory alarm has been triggered, but this is not the case. At least, I know for sure that the alarm hasn't sounded during the night.

It's not so bad at two in the afternoon, but that horn is relatively loud at 4:30 A. M.

Does anyone else get these bogus alarm notifications, and, if so, have you a solution?

Thanks,

Eth

I have been getting it too! It seem only after cold nights and at 5:30 am. A cold night for my truck is only 40 so it isn't really cold.

Never sems to happen when the neighbor is awake only when I am trying to sneak out early on Saturday morning.

Hmmmm, common problem???

Add my name to the exact same problem...

Had only one false (versus daily alarms over 12 days) show up after I unplugged my cell phone from the power outlet.

I had been keeping it there for charging while vehicle was off but had tamper alarm every day it was left plugged in. After it was unplugged, only one. Any commonality with ya all?

Brian:(

Could be the cell phone I usually have 2 plugged in. The system could sense an electrical draw and set it to warn you. I know that a current draw will set off the Jeep alarm.

Cellphone influence

Mine's been doing it since day one, and I just started charging my cell in the truck. I don't think that's it.

There are some days when I hit the door lock on the way out, and wind up waiting a minute before I close the door. I thought that might have been it, but since I've been making an effort to immediately close the door, it still does it. I've also tried strictly using the keychain remote and strictly the door lock button, but it will still happen either way.

If we find something in common, though, I believe we'll be closer to the answer.

My truck:

2001 QC HO 6-speed 2500 4x4 241HD Sport Camper package Leather White

After looking at your sigs, what we have in common is:

2001+

4x4

LSD

As I've said many times in the past, I don't think the LSD had anything to do with it.

Others

ethdee,

Any current drawing items installed on the truck that are active after locking? (Espar, hot-wire radio/cb/lights, clock, heater, etc) It might just be a general current draw that's setting it off.

Also, I've been mixing using remote or door switch for locking so I don't think that's it either.....

Do both of you work/live near high power or electronic emission areas? The only time I've experienced it is at work, but that might only be because the truck is garaged (thus unlocked) while home. Mostly because I don't want the very situation described in the first post happening as that horn can be VERY loud the earlier in the morning it is.

Just trying to throw everything into the hopper.

short?

hmmm, what about a short (or semi-short) in trailer wiring?... ... . ethdee, have the trailer package?

Brian

Trailer wiring?

Nope, we don't have any overhead power lines in my area.

No aftermarket devices installed, except for a Prodigy brake controller. I installed it immediately after buying the truck, and I don't recall it happening before that.

Perhaps I'll unplug it for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

What's everyone's frequency of complaint? Mine's about once or twice a week.

Just went out to the truck to get the paper. Hit the remote and I got the signal. When I opened the door there was a beep from the cell phone, that I had missed a call. It was plugged in to the cigar lighter not the aux power socket. Is it possible that when the phone was ringing it back fed a power spike back to the alarm box and it read it as a tamper?

feedback spike

hmmm dunno. All I know is that I'm going on 4 weeks of 'false-alert free' unlocking since I unplugged the cell and left it unplugged. ps. I tried both cigarette lighter and aux with no change in symptom. Other than that, I'm stock with no draw items on after shutdown. Past this being the cause of my trucks problem I'd have to ask the stealership... . last resort.

Do we get the same problem when we unlock with the key (vice remote)?? I'm beginning to wonder if there is a frequency (say of a transmitted radio nearby, whether harmonic or flat) that can "set" the alarm tamper indication. This only becomes apparent (no corresponding alarm when it happens) then when the vehicle is unlocked.....

Brian

ps. Anyone else?

I am back to this again. I haven't had a tamper alert for 2 weeks until today. Had one this morning. The cell phone was plugged into the lighter socket had two voice mails. I thinks that is what is causing my bogus alerts.

Anyone found the solution? My 2002 just started doing this on Monday. Has happened two more times since then. Stock except Kenwood stereo and Prodigy brake controller, but they have both been in for a while now.

Think I have a fix

I'm going on 6 months without a single false trigger and the only difference is that I've removed the cell phone from the lighter (power) plug when closed up overnight. I haven't taken a single tamper alert since I stopped using the car charger. Since I have a good baseline to test from I'll plug it back in over the next couple weeks and see if I can replicate the symptoms by getting false triggers again. The parking lot is far enough out there to were nobody cares if it honks in the morning as I get in.....

Brian

Mine will do it every now and then. The funny thing is that it only happens at the boat ramp:confused:

It will arm OK, it's when ya go to get the truck to pull the boat out. It has happened during rain, sun, cloudy / overcast, foggy.

I also have nothing in the truck that would draw current, no cell phones, etc...

Has anyone figured out the cure for this yet? Is there an adjustment on the alarm module itself that will decrease the alarm's voltage sensitivity? I leave my GPS plugged in and turned on and the alarm beeps the horn three times when I come back and disarm the alarm. This is really annoying and I have not seen this issue on other car alarms that have a voltage sensing option built into them.
