I have the snap on set like that rigid thats what I will use and I think it has left hand bits in it so it is like haveing both at once thanks for all the tips I am going to try to get to it this week end

There is a young machinist in Clovis NM that does this on a regular basis. I have watched him do a few and as scarry as it sounds it works and works real well. I've tried it a few times and it all has to do with how hot you get the bolt and how fast and hard you hit the cutting lever to blow it out.

I Used To Have An Old 6. 5 That The Starter Bolts Would Break Off In The Block And I Got Quite Good At Removing Them. I Used Left Handed Bit About 1/2 To 2/3 The Diameter Of The Bolt. The Other Trick I Learned Was To Use One Of The Cordless Drills That Had A High Torque Seting For Screw Driving. It Would Normaly Come Out Before I Drilled A 1/4 Inch In. I Used The Same Tech Last Week On An Exaust Manifold Bold On A 1066 International Tractor. I Did Soak It With Pb Plaster Overnight. I Would Bet Your Biggest Chalange Is Going To Working Room Under The Hood.

If the bolt is broken off fairly square, use a bit that just fits down the hole just enough to make a center depression. Then use the smaller bit.

You've been given a lot of good advice. Here is what I did just yesterday with a broken spring bolt on a '68 W300. The bolt broke off flush with the surface of the spring perch on the front axle housing. I took a 4 1/2" grinder with a very thin cutting wheel held vertically over the top of the bolt. I lowered it into the bolt and cut a slot that would allow a substantial screw driver to fit. Then I heated the bolt with my torch until it was bright red, held a piece of paraffin wax on the surface, sprayed it with PB Blaster, and then let the whole thing cool down. After a while I took a small chisel and tapped on the slot in a counter clockwise direction until it moved slightly. Then I put the screw driver in and screwed the bolt out. It was extremely easy. I would do that but it s broke off about a . 25 in to the head and it is the very back cylinder but thanks for the idea anyway

Too bad. It sounds like the drilling process. It might be good to have a magnet around to collect the shavings so they don't go where they shouldn't go. JH
