Today has been one great day!

Rob (Ol Blue), Wes (Desperado), Mike (Old Smoky) and I BOMBed my truck today. Seat of the pants factor: OH YEAH!!!!

We put in some gauges, tuned the pump, did some internal mods to the pump, and put a new hybrid hotrod H1C turbo on. I also found out about some things I need to get fixed, but nothing major.

The one strange thing that we found out was that my timing was pretty retarded, and that's what was causing all my problems.

It took a long time, and we were all glad when it was finally over with... but for me, it was worth it!!!

Now I just need to get an aFe, some injectors, a tach, and a trannie temp gauge, to round off what we've done. After, that... who knows??? I also want to get my oil leak and steering checked, and get my valves adjusted. Hopefully we can do that next weekend!

I just want to say thanks to everyone that helped, and to notify everyone that I'll be catching up to you guys soon... Oo.

Way to go! you are going to love driving the truck with the mods!

Sounds like you had lots of great help there. Talk Mike out of one of his cones. When I had my pump set up the right way, they found my timing was off 2. 5 degrees when checking the pin to TDC. Reset the pin and then set the timing at 1. 7. That was when my truck started running better as well. After that, the other mods were just gravy on top!:)

Yeah, he said I should try out one of his pins, and I have every intent of getting one soon... once I pay him off for the turbo!

We set the timing at 15*, the fuel screw is down 1. 5 turns.

It has made a huge differnce.

And MAN DOES THAT TURBO SING!!! I just can't wait to get an aFe!

I think the next mods will be some porting and polishing of some components, an aFe, and some injectors.

Then after that, a cam, an ats manifold, and a clutch.

Then it's time for the BIG POWER! :D

450, HERE I COME!!!!!!!!

CB:

What kind of injectors are you going to install? What is this turbo you're speaking of? I haven't heard of any besides PDR's. I wouldn't know what to tell you for a clutch, there are too many people that make them. Keep the ole first generation rig powerful. You can never get enough power out of one:D I'm still addicted to BOMBING and have been truckless since April. Pastor Bob, what are the 12 steps to breaking the BOMBING addiction?

John

The turbo was custom made by Old Smoky. It is ported, balanced, has a 16cm housing, and a size 60 compressor.

As for a clutch, I'm sure I'll be going for a south bend.

Injectors? I plan on getting some PODs for now, then when Don comes out with some EDMs that outpower the PODs, I will get a set of those.

So far, Don has been having a hard time with his high flow first gen EDMs, and I don't want to have to wait very long to get injectors.

Besides, PODs aren't expensive, and I could get a good return on them because I doubt it will take too long for Don to make those big injectors.

I have several Jedi Masters as BOMBing coaches.

I, as a lowly Jedi Apprentice, am greatfull that I can have help from such highly respected and knowledgeable people.

The BOMB is strong with them.

:D

You caught a good 1st Gen "Master" in Mike he'll have you at your goal before you know it. Get those injectors then you will really see some RWHP. Looking forward to seeing/meeting you, say at Diesel Thunder in Spokane next summer. Oo. Oo.

Bob

Hey Chris,

I had a great time. Good to hear that you are happy with the results. I heard the roar of your straight pipes latter that night rolling by the Chevy dealership. :) I glad I got to meet you and see Rob and Wes one last time before I head west.

Oh, and when you are ready I have a bunch more ways to spend your money. :-laf Just let me know if I can help with anything else.

Mike

Rob seems to be concerned that the turbo is not spooling quick enough. Will it spool faster when I get the injectors?

I can start making boost (about 10psi) at 35mph in 4th, and about 45pmh in 5th.

I thought that was ok, but of course, I have never had a boost gauge before.

Chris:

With the 16cm housing, you will get the best boost in the middle of the RPM range with a little lag on bottom and top end. When I had the 12 cm on my truck it spooled QUICK, but Didn't offer a whole lot in the upper RPM range. Did you adjust your Anaroid (fuel screw)? It's the little one on the very top of the pump under that 1/2" or so plug recessed down into the pump? That will help out in the bottom end as well. I know how you're feeling though, tromping it all of the time so you can hear the turbo and look in the mirror to see if there is any smoke:D Are you roasting the tires off of it yet? It makes a world of difference, you wonder how you drove it so long the was it WAS.

John

You know me too well! :D

That's exactly what I'm doing. I've done 3 burnouts so far, nothing much... just let the one back tire loose.

This turbo is awesome, once I start making boost... BOOM it shoots to 20-22 psi. It also whines like crazy. IT'S AWESOME!!!

That's enough for me though, tires are EXPENSIVE.

You betcha the fuel screw is adjusted! We tuned the pump quite a bit.
