If you're moving to Colo. play it safe and gut the cat instead of removing it all together. I can't remember if they check mine or not at my last inspection (on a yearly basis here in Colo).
If you are lucky enough to be out in a rural area you won't have to do the tests but if you are in or travel to a metro area regularly (denver, colo spgs, pueblo, ft. collins, boulder) you will have to do the test.
I'm gonna gut my cat soon (when the weather warms a bit). Someone put up a post that said you get a tinny sound if you gut it completely. Someone else said they just punched a big hole in the center and it wasn't tinny sounding. I'm gonna try to do a hole or holes first. If it looks like the innards might fall apart later, guess I'll gut the whole thing.
