2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bombed my seats!

I did the foam push up to but I did something else, I took off the cover and added some to the side bolsters (in the seat) and then a small anount to the center underneath, I add the ABS plastic for foam protec and tried it. lovely!!!



I have added hight but I still have the raised sides for hip support. now I don't have to raise the elec. seat most of the way to get the good height.

I am going on a trip in august, it should help out in the Rear dept.



I don't have too many miles on my truck and the wires were not cutting very much at all but what a difference!! Everybody DO this! it will feel much better.

could you show a diagram or photo of where to add the foam; where did you get the foam?

I took the covers off the sea bottom, there is some rings that prevent it from coming all the way off. Sorry I don't have the time right now for a diagram, but if you make a torpedo shaped piece about 1" thick and place on the outsideof the velcro strips, then recover, then I put 3 strips of foam underneath under the cage. and it provides a lift as well as getting the sides up for the hip support. looks like it did before but higher. .



hope this helps, just start into it and you will see where to do it...



also I got the foam from a army surplus store that has camping as well as military surplus stuff



I bought a 2" x 24" x 48" piece. it was more than enough for both front seats

I am interested in this also - you started the thread as a response to previous discussions? perhaps? My seat is "slumping" on a 2000 CDT with 47000 miles - I weigh 275lb but I was wondering is this a common problem with everybody? My previous truck's seat (a ford) caved in about 120000miles. I wonder if this seat on the Dodge is one of the weak links in an other wise good truck. It was comfortable until it started to "slump' on the left side. I attribute that to having a 5 speed and clutching alot. (same with the previous truck I owned) Do I understand that you placed a plastic surface between the Foam and the wires supporting it.

I have a 98 with 160k and the seat has a definite slump on the left side. I bought the truck with 150k on it and the previous driver was about the same build, 230-240 lbs. I haven't dug into it yet so I'm not sure what's causing the left half of the seat to be compressed

You have not bombed your seats untill you have installed a low profile air ride box under your factroy seat. This is one of the best things you can do to your truck for your neck and back.

i bombed my drivers seat so far a while ago. what an improvement! as eric did, i put padding on the sides and a double "fold" right where my butt leans against. it was a pain to get back on, but worth it. the only thing i hate is that the left side doesn't indent like the factory because there's so much padding (couldn't get the velcro stuff to stick). i also put the piece of carpet down too. i sit about 1 1/2 inches higher now and i don't feel like i'm falling into the seat anymore.

A few issues ago TDR magazine had an article on adding foam to build up the seats. The article was complete with pictures and step by step instructions.

The article was in issue 35, Feb/Mar/Apr, "member 2 member" section page 14.



I am glad you asked what issue. It seems that I copied it for future reference, then I forgot where I put it! Now the lost has been found and I will have to get serious about upgrading my seats.
