Bombed Pyro...

Just installed Autometer's sport-comp trans, pyro and boost gauges. This egt gauge has a module that needs ground and 12v source. I connected the module and trans. 12v feed to an empty spot on the fuse box that is hot only when ignition is on. When turning off engine the egt gauge sometimes will pull a 360 and other times will spike to 600-800 egts and stays there until ignition is turned back on. On the instructions it said to connect to ignition feed or other 12v source, I opted for the ignition feed so the egt module wouldn't stay powered when ignition was off.

Will this damage the gauge? Has anyone seen this? Your help is appreciated, Thanks.

FRodrigues, I would hook the hot lead to a nonswitched 12v source, like it says. It is probably going to last longer being "on" all the time versus switching it and having it freak out every time you turn the key. Autometer probably knew what they were doing when they designed it that way.

I asked a similar question to Autometer awhile back and they said they have not seen any pattern of failures in EGT gauges regarding always on Vs. switched. Mine is switched, this way EVERYTHING is off when i turn the key off.

Does your gauge pull 360s on you too? This thing is weird, when I turn off the ignition the gauge turns a complete circle. I might just rewire it to constant power, I believe they tell you to hook it up to 1amp fuse which I didn't, so it can't draw that much when ignition is off.

I just finished installing Z series Autometer guages, boost, pyro and electric fuel pressure. No power required to the guages except for instrument lights. Exception 12 Volt was required to the fuel module for the fuel pressure guage. I have no problems like you discribe.
