As a fellow TDR member told me when I was looking for a box for the truck a while back "Edge Comp, do it right the first time"

But wait there's more!

There is an evil twin brother to the PE Comp. It's called the DD UFM (Diesel Dynamics Ultimate Fueling Module).

It's a PE Comp box that DD reworks just a fuzz. The general consensus is that the DDUFM is a tad less smokey and therefore may be better for big injectors.

I love mine and can run it up to level 3x5 (enter more confusion!) without slipping the stock clutch on OEM ETC injectors. I use levels 4 and 5 when showing out or racing or smoking, but have to keep the R's up (except for smoking-then R's down). Also I don't have any EGT concerns under 100 empty on flat ground. I'm training my co-pilot to watch the EGT while I'm racing.

Levels explained- The Comp/UFM box has 5 power levels. Each power levels has 5 sublevels. The power level sets the total amount of overfueling to happen. The sub-level determines how early the fuel comes in. The earlier the fuel comes in the quicker the truck responds to throttle inputs, but lots of smoke will result in a foot too heavy at low boost. So the call the sub-level "smoke control" but really your right foot has the ultimate control.

Now, what would I do? Here's what I've done engine/power wise: BHAF (all air, no big$), lost muffler, gauges, UFM. next CLUTCH!

After that, I'm waiting for a good deal on a used set of DD2's or DD3's. Then I'm going for a PDR HX40 and 4/5 inch hybrid exhaust.

But I'm not in any hurry for anything beyond the clutch. I'm way happy with my power now. I should be getting a little over 300hp and a fuzz less than 800fp.

ENJOY:p

Well it sounds like the Edge Comp box is the way to go, so where do I get one and what kind of money is it going to cost me ? Also is there any side effects to these things other than bald tires ?

I would be cool if TDR added another forum for members to post parts they wanted to buy, kinda like a silent auction but backwards. The Vendors can e-mail bids to the buyer, and the buyer gets to select the best bid/service. The member can set up a extra e-mail address so they can avoid spam. I am sure it would increase membership and advertisers.

Just an Idea

Kyle,

check out the TDR classifieds, there might be one in there. If not, try EBay.

Happy Hunting,

Kyle - the classifieds are setup so you can do exactly what your talking about. You can post a wanted ad on there. You can also tell it to email you whenever an ad is put up with the keywords you choose.

I think that a set of (DD3) stage three injectors are the best thing to buy first. They give you usable power and you won't have to watch the Egt's every time your on it. Granted, the seat of your pant meter will tell you that the box is the most bang for your buck but it is alot harder on the clutch or automatic. Also I can't have the box on if it is wet outside cause I will lose traction. Just my two pennies. :D

Hey Steve,

after you gave me a little demo of get up and go with your TT, would you care to list what you have done to your truck? after all its your fault that I bought a 2nd gen:D ;) :D .

Kyle

:D - sorry #ad
!! I'm running the stock exhaust with the muffler removed (resonator still on), BHAF air filter, 275hp RV injectors, and a custom TST Powermax3. The custom part of the PM3 is I have it setup to dump in a bunch of fuel at low boost (to spool the turbo faster) and also to fully fuel all the way to 3200 rpm (because of my 4. 10 gears). The thing I like about the PM3 (which the Blue Chip FMS box also has) is the automatic defueling. When towing the TT I set my defuel point at 1300 degrees and set the box on level 5 (of 9). If allows full fueling for about 7-10 seconds and then defuels to get the EGT's down to 1300 degrees. That allows me to accelerate hard when passing, etc and almost all the way to freeway speed before it defuels to 1300. With this setup I don't have to worry about watching the EGT gauge like a hawk when towing the trailer while enjoying the extra power. I can set the box on level 2 or 3 depending on conditions and stay below 1300 if I wish too - it's just not quite as fun :) . Oh yeah, I had to upgrade the clutch to hold the power, I went with a Joe Donnelly modified sachs.

There are quite a few people who carry the Edge Comps. I bought mine from Piers (www.piersdiesel.com) and have absolutely nothing but good things to say about the level of service he provides. I have also had comparable dealings with Rod at Wildcat Diesel (www.wildcatdiesel.com).

Last time I checked PE Comps, they were around $650-$675, or about $100-$125 more than a PE EZ, but well worth the extra money. Sometimes one or both of the guys I mentioned have sales and can save you some dough on them.

And, if you get a wild hair later, your Comp can be upgraded to a DRAG Comp if desired. And then, well, just make sure you don't melt your engine.

BTW, I'm not affiliated with anyone, just a satisfied customer.

HTH.
