My friend was so impressed with my 91 that he wants more power for his 97. He told me he has 500 dollars to play with and asked me to get the mods for him. First thing I'm gonna do is get boost and pyro gagues and a mount. My question to ya'll is can I get a plate too for under 500?? Which kind should I get... . I don't want him to get over 275-280 hp. I think that should be plenty for him. Thanks for your input.

Call Bullydog, www.bullydog.com . They have fuel plates for a very attractive price. Can you say Group Purchase. Also check www.wwcd2.com to see the price. This was a group purchase that Carl set up. For this he is banned from the board. You should be able to do the gauges and fuel plate for $500. 00 or close to it depending on your choice of gauges. Also check Enterprise Engine Performance www.enterpriseengine.com -Glen

Dude, I have a 97 also... if you dont want to throw money at guages, just get the TST plate for the 230/605lbs, kill the cat and spend $45 at the muffler shop to weld in a straight pipe and call it good! I get 24mpg with a 4x4 at 70 with a/c on! ... and I can still light the tires at a light! Total price: $250 Have fun!

You didn't say if your friend has an auto or a stick, the 49 state ratings for '97 are 180 hp auto and 215 hp 5 spd. I recently bought my Isspro pyro and boost gauge from Diesel Injection Service (www.dieselpage.com), total cost was around $205 including two gauge pods. They also sell TST plates, I think for two gauges (auto) and the TST plate, you'd be right around $500. A pillar mount or auto trans temp gauge (mandatory with upgraded motor) will add a little more.

NeedMo, you've been given some good advice. Kill the cat, ax the muff and a 230hp fuel plate is what I started with, however I found that when working the truck, I could hit 1300 deg. egt as measured pre turbo. That would be when pulling the backhoe, or big loads of hay. At about 1200 deg. , I'd start backing out of the fuel.

If you friend doesn't work his truck, he may get by without gauges, however, I'd advise that he at least springs for a egt gauge, he can still come in under $500, and not have to worry, "am I about to melt my engine down".
