was wondering if/when you install bigger injectors or add a fuel/timing box to increase engine performance does the software that controls the engine i. e. ecm/pmc store any info that could be found by dc that would give them a reason to void the warranty ect?. thanks in advance for your reply. :-{}

All of the add-on boxes will show up using Cummins' INSITE software. They show up as a fuel fault. No check engine light or anything though. DC usually cannot see if a box has been there or not.

thanks for the info. just looking at some injectors for the eth. i have been informed that if you install larger injectors that dc would be able to see them from the fuel flow rate. and btw ecm and pcm, not ecm and pmc. thanks. :D

I would think the dealer would realize something was up the first time they drove your truck, that is unless you plan on swapping injectors before every visit to the service dept. Plus won't you need a boost module and do some wastegate mods to address the issue of needing more air to accomodate the increased fueling??

DC and dealers are getting wise to detecting these sort of things. Not long ago there was a post here about DC sending a bulleting to dealers instructing them how and where to look for determining if the injection pump wire has been tapped/nicked from fuel boxes. Just a few things to consider before you cross over to the dark side ;)

PS: Note Evan states DC usually can't see if a box has been hooked-up. Now I can be wrong but I think some posts here have hinted if a warranty issue on a failed VP-44 or engine failure arises and BOMBing is suspected, DC does have ways of digging deep enough in the ECM to retrive that info. Maybe in these circumstances DC has access to the Cummins INSITE software (a limited version) or they have Cummins read the ECM, I don't know.

I guess it depends on where you live. Around here the dealers never see the CTD's they hardly sell any,any they dont come back for whatever reason. My local dealer wouldnt know if there wer 275's or dd1's in there. Im sure the power smoke of anyhting bigger would be a dead giveaway ,as well as the boost module needed to run dd2's or bigger. With dd1's or smaller you dont need a boost module,although raising the boost would help on the hot running ETH especially ,you could pull it off quickly to bring it to the dealer.

Check out Fritz's web site, he has the TSB's listed. There is one that talks about this issue and how DC will charge back the Dealer for the warranty repair and the Dealer will go after the customer if any "bombing" is discovered after the part is returned to DC. So even the dumb dealers will be checked by DC. This was a recent TSB that I never saw before. They are even going after the exhaust and airbox mods for voiding the warranty. Read like they were saying any bomb and void warranty and customer prove that it did not have any effect on the damaged part. Example if you added a 4 inch exhaust and it added 5 HP, then your transmission went out. The claim would be the added HP took out the transmission. Looks like if you change anything from a stock setup your Warranty is gone and you are your own Warranty station. :(

I'm staying stock, my truck has all of the power I will ever need.

Just say... ... . I am my own warranty station!!!! Besides a good dealer will warranty the things that your BOMBing didn't break. Leave it stock if you must have full warranty.

thanks for all the input. the reason for the concern is not damaging the engine, it is dc using something as an excuse to avoid living up to the warranty the truck came with. i would not have a problem replacing something damaged or failed due to a mod i did, however dc has a reputation for avoiding items under warranty that should be covered due to a mod/bomb that is not related to the failed item. also it is not the good dealers i am worried about, it is the other dealers i am worried about concerning warranty!!!!! thanks again.
